RaceTrac Company Overview

Job Description:

Release Train Engineer (RTE) to lead and coordinate Agile Release Trains (ARTs) in a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) environment. The RTE will serve as a servant leader, facilitator, and coach, ensuring smooth execution of program-level activities and enabling the continuous delivery of high-value solutions. This role requires strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills to drive alignment across teams and stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

Program Execution & Facilitation

•            Lead and facilitate critical Agile Release Train (ART) events—including Program Increment (PI) Planning, Inspect and Adapt (I&A), System Demos, and ART Syncs—to ensure synchronized execution across the train.

•            Ensure continuous alignment between Product Management, System Architects, and Development Teams so that every technical delivery remains focused on achieving Business Strategy and high-level organizational goals.

•            Take primary accountability for the successful delivery of Program Objectives, managing the execution of ART commitments to ensure high predictability.

•            Proactively identify and resolve cross-team dependencies and enterprise-scale risks across all ART teams to ensure objective delivery with minimal risk and disruption.

Agile Coaching & Leadership

•            Act as a "coach for coaches," providing mentorship to individual Scrum Masters to elevate their facilitation skills and servant leadership.

•            Guide teams and Scrum Masters in the consistent application of Agile best practices, Lean thinking, and SAFe principles to ensure a unified "Way of Working" across the train.

•            Provide targeted coaching for Scrum Masters, Product Owners, and Delivery Teams on advanced Agile methodologies and the removal of complex, systemic impediments.

•            Drive a program-wide culture of continuous learning by leading Communities of Practice (CoPs) and facilitating cross-team retrospectives that move the program from "Crawl" to "Run".

•            Cultivate a Lean-Agile mindset across all teams within the Agile Release Train (ART), ensuring that team-level agility directly supports enterprise-scale strategic objectives.

Stakeholder Communication & Reporting

•            Serve as a liaison between business leaders, portfolio management, and development teams.

•            Provide visibility into ART progress, risks, and dependencies.

•            Track key metrics (e.g., flow metrics: velocity, cycle time, load, efficiency, predictability) and ensure value delivery.

•            Facilitate cross-team collaboration and alignment on objectives.

Process Improvement & Transformation

  • •            Identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and areas for optimization in Agile delivery using Measure Grow SAFe flow metrics and Inspect and Adapt best practices.
  • •            Drive value stream optimization and Agile maturity growth.

Work Schedule:

  • Hybrid (3 days in office)

Qualifications:

Required:

  • 6-8+ years of experience in Agile environments, with at least 2 years in an RTE role.
  • Deep understanding of SAFe principles and Agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban, Lean).
  • Proven ability to manage large-scale programs and 10+ cross-functional teams.
  • Strong facilitation, coaching, and servant leadership skills.
  • Experience in managing risks, dependencies, and organizational change.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and conflict resolution skills.

Preferred:

  • SAFe Release Train Engineer (RTE) certification
  • Familiarity with Agile Maturity Models and Assessment Tools (ie AgilityInsights)
  • Certified AgilityHealth Facilitator (AHF)
  • ICP-ATF Agile Team Facilitation certification
  • ICP-ENT Enterprise Agile Coaching certification
  • Background in software development, IT, program/product management.
