Job Description:

This is an enterprise-level leadership role reporting directly to the Chief Pharmacy Officer.

The purpose of this role is to provide leadership and strategic direction for the pharmacy internal process controls team to ensure pharmacy services at Intermountain is perpetually compliant to the laws and rules that govern the practice of pharmacy and medication use in across all three regions. The Internal Process Controls team audits processes and identifies best practice to reduce unnecessary complexity. The strategy includes proactive processes are in place for ensuring perpetual compliance with policy, procedures, laws, and regulations pertinent to pharmacy practice in multiple settings (e.g., clinics, hospitals, home care, community pharmacy, specialty pharmacy, ambulatory care pharmacy, and pharmacy revenue cycle, 340B Drug Pricing Program). This role has oversight for drug diversion prevention, pharmacy automation, and pharmacy revenue cycle. This position advises and collaborates with compliance, legal, revenue cycle, and others to provide expertise within their area of responsibility. This position partners with all areas of the enterprise where medications are used to ensure compliance to laws, regulations, and accreditation requirements are met. The leader in this position leads direct reports and leads others in the enterprise by influence.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for the strategic vision, goals, and initiatives associated with pharmacy internal process controls for areas where medications are present, and all aspects associated with the practice of pharmacy across the enterprise in all areas of pharmacy practice (acute care, home services, community pharmacy, specialty pharmacy, ambulatory pharmacy)
  • Responsible for the development of a robust program for interconnecting front-line pharmacy operations, internal process controls, compliance, and internal audit to result in pharmacy operations that are perpetually compliant with all laws and regulations and continual improvement regarding compliance in these areas.
  • Develops a systematic approach to assessing adherence to medication-management-related policies, procedures, guidelines, and other requirements pertinent to pharmacy practice.
  • Acts as the enterprise pharmacy leader for all regulatory, legal, and compliance matters related to pharmacy.
  • Works closely with leaders in the medication policy and outcomes division, hospital division, specialty division, and community division to ensure that pharmacy operations that are perpetually compliant with all laws and regulations and are continually improving.
  • Actively participates in the development and refinement of system policies, procedures, and guidelines pertaining to medication management.
  • Develops strategies and tactics to recognize front-line team members for best practices that are identified during field-based visits and to ensure that best practices are implemented in all applicable sites.
  • Develops a systematic approach to follow legislative changes that may impact the use of medications and practice of pharmacy in all states and regions where Intermountain operates.
  • Models and fosters an environment of professionalism, continuous learning, and clinical excellence. Ensures that team members are competent operationally, clinically, and financially.
  • Provides effective leadership for direct reports and for those with dotted-line relationships.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctor of Pharmacy or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree from an accredited institution (education verified). 
  • Master’s degree in a healthcare related field of study
  • License to practice pharmacy in a state in which Intermountain Health operates or eligibility to obtain a license upon hire.  
  • Effective communication, people management, and project management skills. 
  • Personal computer skills including word processing and spreadsheets
  • Effective skills leading teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of an ASHP accredited residency or equivalent experience
  • Personal computer skills including word processing and spreadsheets.

    This is an exempt, full-time position with a compensation range of $204,700 - $227,700, annually, and as determined by prior years of relevant experience. With this position, you are eligible to participate in the Annual Pay for Performance (AP4P) Plan. This plan enables Intermountain Health to provide leaders with an additional performance compensation opportunity. The AP4P award opportunities are calculated as a percentage of your base salary. Awards are paid out based on attainment of selected Board-approved goals.

    Physical Requirements

    • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, documents, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs.
    • Frequent interactions with providers, colleagues, customers, patients/clients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.
    • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use for typing, accessing needed information, etc.
    • May have the same physical requirements as those of clinical or patient care jobs, when the leader takes clinical shifts.
    • For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.

    The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience. 

    $89.16 - $137.61
