Role Summary and Purpose
- We are recruiting a Wordings Specialist to join our experienced Wordings team, which is part of the Legal and Governance Department.
- The role will primarily support our London Market underwriters and will involve reviewing and advising on broker and coverholder policy wordings (and associated documentation) for a variety of business lines, for both UK and international risk locations.
- This role will also be responsible for helping to maintain Arch policy wordings, which are drafted and managed by the Wordings team.
- The Wordings Specialist will ensure that all wordings accurately capture underwriting intent, meet legal and regulatory requirements and are finished to a professional standard.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Reviewing, drafting and developing policy wordings, complementary endorsements and associated documentation for a variety of business lines.
- Interacting with key stakeholders in the business, including Underwriting and Claims, to ensure that all policy documentation is fit for purpose and delivered in line with business needs.
- Working closely with key functions, including Compliance, Delegated Underwriting Authority, Conduct and Product Management, and Complaints, to ensure that products meet regulatory requirements.
- Acting as a key point of contact for underwriters on specific wordings queries and providing training to the business as required.
- Liaising with external stakeholders, including external legal counsel, coverholders and brokers, to obtain advice and resolve any wordings issues in a collaborative way.
- Providing recommendations and advice, as required, on operational and regulatory aspects of insurance product design and policy documentation, identifying deficiencies in wordings and working with the business to regularly update wordings.
- Ensuring that wordings expertise is up to date, including attending training and receiving updates on market, legal and regulatory developments.
- Participating in other team and departmental projects and initiatives.

- Skilled in drafting, reviewing and developing insurance wordings.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure policy wordings are aligned with business requirements.
- Good knowledge of regulatory requirements relating to insurance wordings.
- Ability to identify issues and provide solutions in a timely manner considering the different stakeholders and business needs.
- Excellent organisation and prioritisation skills. Ability to manage multiple projects within a busy, dynamic team environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate and negotiate with colleagues and external stakeholders at all levels.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Enthusiastic, positive attitude with the ability to be flexible and multi-task and deliver initiatives within short timescales.
Qualifications
- Minimum A-level standard preferred.
- Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) qualifications or University Degree (or similar) desirable but not essential.
Experience
- Experience with open market and delegated authority business within the London market.
- Good knowledge of different business lines and different customer types (i.e. consumer, SME, large commercial).
- Experience with primary and excess layer insurance, and (facultative) reinsurance.
- Some international experience is preferred, but not essential.
