The Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park (www.chbe.umd.edu), invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position. The successful candidate will develop an impactful, externally funded research program, teach, and mentor graduate and undergraduate students, and contribute to the department’s collaborative culture and broader mission. This will include strong scholarly work, innovative instruction at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, participation in faculty governance and institution-building, service to the broader scientific community, and building partnerships within the department, the A. James Clark School of Engineering and the university, as well as with industrial, governmental, or community partners. Applicants with a research focus on biomanufacturing, biopharmaceuticals, process design/control, and women’s health will be of particular interest, especially those applying machine learning (ML), deep learning (DL), and artificial intelligence (AI) approaches. Those with a mix of ML/DL/AI and wet lab research are encouraged to apply.

17 tenure/tenure-track faculty
● The College received a significant gift from the A. James & Alice B. Clark Foundation of

Candidates will be expected to establish a creative, well-funded, and collaborative research program that will serve to educate graduate and undergraduate students and advance their field. Candidates should be effective communicators and have an ability and interest in working with student populations from a variety of backgrounds, learning styles, and skill levels. The successful candidate will contribute to the teaching of undergraduates and graduate courses within the department. Postdoctoral training beyond the Ph.D. is viewed as providing additional training needed to be successful as an Assistant Professor, but it is not mandatory. Applicants who complement existing thrusts in ML/AI/DL and connect to research in the areas of women’s health, biomaterials, drug delivery, and biopharmaceuticals are encouraged to apply.
