Business Strategy

  • Lead the coordination, amalgamation, streamlining of management information for BCB business data for the region which includes all sites where BCB is present. This information includes but not limited to revenue, profitability, returns (RORA), total/exposure limits and amount outstanding.  
  • To design a monthly performance tracker for each site respectively
  • Lead analysis of various related key performance data to highlight issues and trends, and to test hypothesis on key drivers and relationships;
  • To lead the development of cross border referral system that would effectively drive the business in the various sites. To track outbound and inbound referrals for all sites.  (commonly known as “throw and catch”). Besides intra-BCB referrals, this would also include cross referrals to PFS, Private Wealth, HLISB and HLIB.
  • To identify business opportunities and actively formulate both strategic and tactical plans for implementation. For example, to identify a list of Malaysian companies with a footprint in either Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia and Hong Kong. This list is to be shared with the BCB teams in the respective countries. To set up ‘corridors” between any 2 countries and to ensure the appointment of “champions” to own the corridor, in the respective countries, to drive business growth.
  • To monitor and manage country exposures at a portfolio level
  • To conduct Network Banking roadshows in all the sites to increase the awareness of the ARM/RMs and to encourage referrals and boosting HLBB’s international business
  • Familiarizing with regulatory/compliance between Malaysia and the various sites . For example, reviewing any double taxation treaties that is applicable.
  • Provide strategic thought leadership and drive collaboration with governmental bodies/agencies to promote Hong Leong Bank’s international business. Example would be MIDA, Matrade, Invest KL, sponsoring/participating in trade missions to countries where Hong Leong Bank is present.
  • Analyzing the impact of key economic and regulatory developments to identify business opportunities in each of the sites and actively formulate both strategic and tactical plans for implementation;
  • Providing recommendations to Managing Director / Business Heads in producing and coordinating a sound corporate strategic plan, ensuring all business units maintain consistency with the business strategy, goals and objectives;
  • Design appropriate action plans to effectively manage emerging risks in each country. Thereafter, work with Wholesale Credit Division in the completion of policy reviews, thematic credit reviews for selected industries / client groups and regulatory engagement / surveys (incl. ad-hoc industry or portfolio analysis to CSC and / or MCC);
  • Spearhead special projects including defining project / business objectives, identify areas of work and driving coordination and synergy with relevant stakeholders under clearly defined milestones and achieving results within the guided timeline and expenditures.
  • Lead in producing and maintaining a comprehensive competitor analysis / industry benchmarking with analysis and insights towards achieving business goals;
  • Respond, as requested, to ad-hoc requests from Group Managing Director, Managing Director, Business & Corporate Banking Management Team, and units within the business.
