What You'll Be Doing...

As a network engineer, your primary responsibility will be to act as a proactive scout for the network, reviewing NMC tickets, alarming data, and existing automations to spot trends and identify new opportunities for innovation.

  • You will perform deep-dive data analysis into various systems to evaluate the performance of current workflows and determine their business impact.
  • By "wading through" complex datapoints, you will synthesize information into a cohesive picture that enables the team to improve the network through strategic automation.
  • You will stay in sync with the broader US-based team to ensure all automation efforts align with current operational needs.
  • Your role will be within the IP network management center(NMC), the IPNMC handles tier one and tier two functions for the Verizon global backbone network, including enterprise, consumer I,P and FiOS networks.
  • You will focus on implementing automation to minimize and eliminate manual processes and enhance proactive solutions.

What We’re Looking For...

You possess an "automation mindset"—the innate ability to look at a manual process and visualize an automated solution. You are a detail-oriented analyst who enjoys exploring various systems to find meaningful trends within large datasets. You thrive in a role that requires both independent investigation and collaborative synchronization with a global team.

  • Leading the effort to transform the way we do operations by leveraging automation tools to develop scalable workflows.

  • Understanding new technology development

  • Understanding automation platform architecture and align team’s activities accordingly.

  • Automation Orchestration: Drive the development of tools for auto-triage, auto-mitigation, and auto-notification to achieve aggressive orchestration and MTTR reduction targets.

  • Network Intelligence: Leverage telemetry data and AI/ML models to provide authoritative network visibility and smarter incident response.

  • Operational Excellence: Utilize the "Prepare, Pause, and Confirm" methodology to ensure all automation activities maintain the highest safety and reliability standards.

You’ll Need to Have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or one or more years of work experience.

  • Foundational Python knowledge or significant experience in Network Automation.

  • Proven experience with data analysis, specifically the ability to identify trends within complex datasets.

  • Experience or the ability to quickly gain proficiency in ticketing and notification systems such as vRepair, Remedy, UTP, and Echo.

  • Solid troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities

  • Established knowledge and understanding of IP Networks, Telephony Switching, Data Communications, Network Routers and telecommunications equipment/infrastructure and technologies such as BGP, MPLS, IS-IS, OSPF.

  • Ability to effectively communicate, collaborate, and adapt.

  • Willingness to work a schedule that includes overlap with US day shift (specifically for weekly staff meetings and initial training).

Even Better if you have one or more of the following:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

  • Familiarity with NMC operations, including ticket worklog entries and alarm attributes.

  • The ability to interpret existing automation workflows to effectively answer end-user questions.

  • Experience with large-scale IT systems and infrastructure.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to stay in sync with a distributed team across different time zones.

  • Network Certifications(A+, Network+, CCIE, CCNA, etc.)

  • Ability to lead technical discussions with a group of individuals in the industry with varying technical positions.

  • Technical project management experience, interpersonal skills, and the ability to balance multiple work assignments simultaneously.

  • Experience with network automation tools.

  • Understanding of Agile Framework.

  • Proven experience in automation development and software integration.

  • Advanced knowledge of Verizon’s network architecture or internal automation platforms (e.g., ATOM, AP, SevOne) or network systems.

  • Experience with AI/ML integration for predictive network health and automated Root Cause Analysis (RCA).

If Verizon and this role sound like a fit for you, we encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet every “even better” qualification listed above.
