Role title:  Registered Nurse (Year 1 - 8)

Role type:  Permanent full time

Department and location:  PANDA Unit, St Vincent’s Hospital, Darlinghurst

Salary:  $74,317.94 - $104,336.27 + super.

About the role

  • Psychiatric, Alcohol and Non-Prescription Drug Assessment (PANDA) Unit is a medical inpatient ward for people presenting with alcohol and/or other substance intoxication or behavioural disturbance, together with co-existing medical, drug and alcohol, toxicological and/or mental health issues. 

  • Provide trauma-informed care alongside comprehensive medical, psychiatric, and psychosocial assessments to determine the complexity of each patient’s needs.

  • Foster a non-judgemental, psychologically safe environment that supports open communication and collaborative development of an individualised care plan.

  • Liaise and refer to community outreach services and local NGOs to provide ongoing support and a more integrated care plan after hospital discharge.

  • Support the development of strong, collaborative relationships with the Aboriginal Health Team, Mental Health services, Alcohol and Other Drug & Homeless Health Teams to support continuity of care.

  • Focus on increasing patient engagement with community services and create sustainable treatment options to decrease the need for crisis presentations to the Emergency Department.

About you

  • Currently registered as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) with the Australian Health Professionals Regulation Agency.

  • Demonstrated ability to work within the interdisciplinary team using effective communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated evidence of integration of theoretical knowledge and clinical skills, critical thinking and analysis in their daily practice as a registered nurse.

  • Demonstrated effective time management skills and ability to prioritise competing workloads within a complex environment.
