About E&ES: 

Caterpillar’s Electrification & Energy Solutions (E&ES) Division will focus on delivering advanced electrified power train, zero-emissions products/technologies, and the solutions and services associated with these technologies. Focus areas include batteries, fuel cells, motors, inverters, micro grid controllers, charging, energy storage systems, lifecycle solutions/services and integration of components for ePowertrain solutions across industries.

Job Summary:

An electric Powertrain system (e-Powertrain) includes a power source (ex. Diesel engine, battery, or fuel cell), power electronics, and electric drivetrain components combined via “supervisory” controls into an electric powertrain system. As an Engineering Project Team Leader on the e-Powertrain Systems validation team, you will be joining an innovative team on the cutting edge of electrification.  The e-Powertrain System team is part of the Electrification & Energy Solutions Division (E&ES) and is a full electric powertrain solution partner for Caterpillar Inc.'s Construction Industries, Resource Industries, and Energy & Transportation segments' "prime product" groups. 

What You Will Do: 

  • Create a validation strategy and activity plan for the e-Powertrain system, collaboratively, with systems teams, lab teams, and global machine development groups to establish standard work Activities should favor virtual , bench, and lab-based techniques. 

  • Drive usage of such tools such as the Failsafe Process and Validation FMEA’s to evaluate the effectiveness of the validation activity plan on critical failure modes, and direct activities to mitigate risk. 

  • As validation needs become known for which there is no robust method, the validation engineer must communicate the need and lead the effort to develop a new procedure. 

  • Creation of Proactive Reliability glidepaths  

  • Coordination and leadership of Simulation & Test Collaboration Workshops (STCWs) at system level, and participation in component and machine level events  

  • Prepare and present a Readiness Summary at Gates 2, 3, & 4 for the e-Powertrain L5 system 

  • Stay abreast of product new content and share w/ other appropriate L4, L5, & L6 Validation Leaders 

  • Obtain Validation Strategy and Commitment from Validation Leaders 

  • Partner w/ Machine Development Supervisor to establish post Gate 4 plan. 

  • Provide guidance to machine configurations for testing/validation. 

  • Management of development (NPI) issues  

  • Facilitation of issue resolution with design groups  

  • Communicate results to customers, suppliers, team members, and other business units  

  • Conduct L5 e-Powertrain system readiness summaries (SRS)

  • Provide Technical guidance, effective training, relationship building, & engagement of other Validation Engineers and capture lessons learned 

What You Will Have: 

  • Degree Requirement: Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering or Engineering Technology curriculum 

  • Technical Excellence: Extensive experience and knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges. 

  • Project Management:  Expert knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.  

  • Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Extensive experience and knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing or product management environment. 

  • Product Design and Development: Extensive experience and knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production. 

What Will Set You Apart: 

  • Experience with lab component or machine validation 

  • Experience with structured FMEA & DVP&R process 

  • Experience with NPI Issue resolution process 

  • Solid organizational and facilitation skills (6-Sigma BB or GB) 

  • Experience with electric drive systems and/or components 

  • Demonstrated understanding of mechanical & electrical systems with special emphasis on electric drive systems 

Additional Information: 

  • The location for this position is Mossville, IL and requires 5-days a week on-site availability  

  • Domestic relocation assistance is available for this position

Summary Pay Range:

$126,000.00 - $189,000.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
