The Automation Tools Lead Engineer is a key role in Gas Power's Pillar Engineering Tools (PET) team where our mission aspires to innovate, build, and sustain software-based solutions that streamline the way work gets done. This is a unique space where one’s engineering knowledge and software development capability combine to produce solutions of high value. With a heavy focus on automating CAD-based designs and definition, while also improving access to PLM database information and mechanizing other business processes, the PET Automation group delivers over $9M of cost avoidance benefits to Gas Power annually. Our suite of automation tools includes approximately 150 active applications, catering to teams across Gas Power Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and others.
The Automation Tools Lead Engineer is a contributor and lead in this group with responsibilities for new strategic tools development, portfolio management, and project management. The engineer may assume technical and/or functional ownership of different existing or to be developed tools. The lead role will additionally help drive operational rigor to standards, taking steps to grow awareness and usage of the automation teams’ suite of tools and help establish a preferred future state of these tools that can leverage newer AI capabilities into individual and/or collective tool coverage. Collaboration with PET members, business stakeholders, end users, and a sprinkling of IT partners will help drive the lead engineer towards realizing a vision of customer-minded, innovative solutions that stay at the forefront of what good looks like.

Roles and Responsibilities
- Holds ownership role in software management, backlog prioritization, tool suite harmonization, and work execution for a portion of the automation tools portfolio.
- Applies OpenNX, C#, VB, or other coding language know-how to innovate, build, sustain, and enhance solutions supporting Model-Based Definitions. [on-boarding period expected if experience lacking]
- Serves as a Tool expert, knowledgeable of how the business uses the tool(s) for their area and helping drive tool(s) lifecycle for automation tool suite harmonization
- Leads problem solving activities where appropriate
- Executes scope of work assigned within policy, standard work procedures and aligned to priorities.
- Responsible for ensuring scope meets customer needs and is delivered with the required quality; providing inputs for, and potential ownership of, KPIs.
- Facilitates effective communication, training, and documentation to ensure user adoption and awareness of tool capability, usage, benefits, and updates.
- Takes on assignments beyond position scope, as requested or required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics or Computer Science from an accredited university or college or equivalent knowledge and experience.
- Strong experience combined in Engineering/Technology and Engineering Tools, preferably in a Lead Contributor or Leader role.
- If contracted in Italy: EU work permit and fluency in English and/or Italian

Other Beneficial Characteristics
- Computer Aided Design (CAD) with understanding of OpenNX programming [highly desired, but not essential]
- Basic understanding of scrum, agile methods and version control tracking software (e.g. github)
- Familiarity with Gas Power Product Designs, CAD Standards, and Engineering Definition

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $98,400.00 and $164,000.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set.
Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
