  • Location: Primarily Glenbrook Hospital (Must be flexible to travel to all Endeavor Sites, Evanston, Skokie, Glenview, Highland Park, Swedish Hospital-Chicago, Northwest Community Hospital-Arlington Heights)
  • Full Time/Part Time:  Full time
  • Hours:  40 hours
  • On Call:  10-12 call days a month
  • Education: Graduate of an accredited Perfusion Program
  • Certification: Must be Certified by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion and licensed by the State of Illinois. 
  • Bonus: 20K Sign On

Clinical Duties:  The practice of perfusion is defined as those functions necessary for the support, treatment measurement or supplementation of the cardiopulmonary and circulatory system of the patient.  A perfusionist is the skilled person, qualified by academic and clinical education, who operates extra-corporeal circulation equipment during any medical situation where it is necessary to support or replace the patient's cardiopulmonary/circulatory function and ensures the proper management of physiologic function by monitoring the necessary variables.

Create or modify existing techniques to accommodate complex cardiac procedures such as LVAD, DHCA, bridge to transplant

Counterpulsation

HIPEC procedures

Circulatory support ventricular assistance

Blood conservation techniques/autotransfusion

Myocardial preservation

Anticoagulation and hematologic monitoring and analysis

Blood gas and blood chemistry monitoring and analysis

Induction of hypothermia/hyperthermia with reversal

Hemodilution

Hemofiltration

Administration of medications, blood components and anesthetic agents via the extra-corporeal circuit

Isolated Limb/Organ perfusion

Electrophysiologic analysis

Access for dialysis during CPB

Documentation associated with described duties

Engage in regular decision making process to meet the needs of individual patients.  Rapid, critical decision making is essential to the successful outcome of cardiopulmonary bypass.

Provide advice and counsel to medical, professional and technical colleagues on issues related to perfusion.
