Purpose of the Role
New Story seeks a senior consultant to design, prototype, and refine a construction-finance product aimed at families who build their homes incrementally. The role focuses on creating a financially legible, market-ready product that responds to real household behavior, operational constraints, and the requirements of institutions that could scale this model.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop the conceptual architecture of the financing product, including value proposition, constraints, and operational logic.

  • Build a robust segmentation of families based on readiness, income and repayment capacity, payment behavior, and stage of self-construction.

  • Design differentiated product prototypes (loan terms, disbursement schemes, eligibility rules, risk assumptions) for early-stage demand and usability testing.

  • Participate in field testing (paper testing) sessions (Jalisco) to validate assumptions.

  • Produce the final product(s) design and a clear set of indicators to measure adoption, repayment performance, and operational feasibility.

  • Develop a market-facing evidence package summarizing findings and outlining conditions required for scale by potential financial partners.

Key Deliverables

  1. Partner Engagement Inputs (Months 1–3): Target-ally list, interview script, and findings memo.

  2. Conceptual Framework & Segmentation (Months 1–3): Product design framework, family segmentation, and initial prototypes.

  3. Paper Testing Insights (Months 4–7): Executive memo (3–5 pages) linking field observations to product adjustments.

  4. Final Product & Indicator Framework (Months 8–15): Complete credit design, risk assumptions, operational model, and MEL indicators.

  5. Market Evidence Package (Months 16–18): Synthesis document for external institutions evaluating product adoption.

Timeline (Feb 2026 – Aug 2027)

  • Months 1–3: Framework, segmentation, early prototypes, partner engagement.

  • Months 4–7: Paper testing and refinement.

  • Months 8–15: Pilot observation, full product design, and indicator framework.

  • Months 16–18: Synthesis and market-facing outputs.

Ideal Profile
Experienced financial-product designer (8–10+ years) with expertise in low-income housing, credit operations, risk metrics, and the Mexican financial ecosystem; strong analytical and technical writing skills; and ability to work across field, MEL, and operations teams.
