Position Summary
Reporting to the Coordinator, Recreation, this part-time position is responsible for ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment to all users of the Fitness Centres
Major Job Responsibilities
- Provide a safe and welcoming environment to all current and potential pass holders to help them excel in their active living goals within the Fitness Centre:
- Introduce new pass holders to all equipment to ensure correct utilization
- Interact with pass holders and provide recommendations, such as technique, personal training or small group training, when appropriate
- Assist instructors with set-up and take down of classes o Provide a warm-up or substitute class, based on personal area(s) of expertise if required
- Provide guidance to and oversight of Volunteers
- Establish positive relationships and clear communication channels with all staff and participants
- Comply with all health and safety practices as it relates to the work, standard operating guidelines and the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Maintain a safe and clean facility, including proper usage and storage of equipment. Proactively communicate program needs to Facility Maintenance staff, and all facility or equipment deficiencies to Coordinator, Recreation
- Evaluate situations for potential risks and proactively take action to address such risks. Communicate actions and/or concerns to Coordinator, Recreation
- Maintain regular communication with the Customer Service Desk to provide program updates and request support in the event of an emergency
- Provide suggestions to Coordinator, Recreation on ways to enhance the customer experience
- Administrative tasks:
- Report any incidents, concerns or site damage to Coordinator, Recreation o Enter statistical data for program attendance
- Regularly update member communication boards o Ensure all applicable certifications or awards are current and provided to Coordinator, Recreation
- Complete shift checklists including repair logs, cleaning, and machine safety checklists
- Submit required forms (including payroll)
- Attend and participate in mandatory staff functions
Education & Experience
- Secondary school diploma
- Completion of post-secondary education in Health & Fitness Promotion, Recreation & Leisure Services or a related field Experience is preferred
- One (1) year working within a Fitness Centre setting
- Two (2) years working within a Fitness Centre setting Certifications or Designations is an asset
- Current CSEP-CPT, Certified Personal Trainer or Fitness Instructor Specialist in equivalent organization
- Standard First Aid and CPR C P
- HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development
- Fundamentals of Fitness Leadership Additional Job Skills
- Satisfactory Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening
