The 6D Geriatric Psych Unit at Lutheran Hospital specializes in the unique needs of this age group, focusing on evaluation, treatment, and stabilization. They offer a range of services, including medication management, therapy, and support for managing chronic medical conditions.
A caregiver in this position works variable shifts 7:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. OR 11:00 a.m. -- 11:30 p.m.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
· Provide direct nursing care.
· Implement and monitor patient care plans.
· Monitor, record and communicate patients’ conditions.
· Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
· Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge needs.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
· Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing.
· Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
· Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
· External applicants: two years of recent related nursing experience.
· Internal applicants with less than two years’ experience, but post orientation/90-day probationary period, could be considered with the Chief Nursing Officer level review and approval.
· Will consider military RN experience.
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
· Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
· Experience in in-patient hospital or nursing home setting
