Toronto, Ontario, Canada (Hybrid)

As a part of Hitachi Urban Rail Signaling, a global business line with over 5000 Engineers located in centers worldwide (Canada, UK, Singapore, Hong Kong, Middle East, and more), this position is based in Toronto, Canada, with a core team of approximately 800 Engineers. The team spans multiple engineering disciplines, including System, Hardware, Software, Cyber, Data, AI, Safety, and RAMT.

In this entry-level Software Analyst role, you will leverage your academic experience to contribute to the railway signaling domain, focusing on developing and testing components of operationally or safety-critical software systems. You will be guided by Senior Software Analysts or Technical Specialists to gain expertise in software engineering and processes governing activities. Your focus will be on adhering to established design patterns and development processes critical to safety-sensitive systems.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Modify and extend existing designs, debug, write test procedures, and test software code.

  • Produce, under supervision, detailed impact analyses of changes to multiple software components.

  • Review code, test procedures, and test results.

  • Execute integration tests on simulated or target hardware test benches.

  • Identify root causes of software defects and implement corrections.

  • Proactively align with planning constraints for assignments, ensuring timely execution.

  • Demonstrate curiosity and a mindset for proposing improvements.

Key Requirements:

  • Minimum 1 year of relevant working experience (academic projects will be considered).

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Sciences, Engineering, or a closely related field.

  • Entry-level analysis skills to diagnose issues from application logs and correlate events to failures.

  • Ability to handle assignments within small to medium-scale software applications.

  • Familiarity with software development lifecycles, including Waterfall and Agile methodologies.

  • Ability to integrate quickly with the team and work independently.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Hands-on experience with source control tools and IDEs/code editors.

  • Proficiency in producing applications using one of the following:

    • C

    • C++ (using STL, Boost).

  • Theoretical knowledge of object-oriented techniques, multithreading, and socket programming.

  • Understanding of AUTOSAR, MISRA C++ standards, and object-oriented principles.

  • Basic knowledge of graph theory.

  • Exposure to scripting tools, particularly Python.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated capability to produce structured engineering analyses.

  • Basic understanding of control theory (e.g., PID, PD, Fuzzy Logic, Adaptive controllers).

  • Experience programming across multiple operating systems (e.g., Windows and Linux)

Total Compensation Range: $66,000 - $96,000
