JOB PURPOSE

The Driver/Equipment Handler is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of catering goods, equipment, and supplies between the catering facility and client site, including but not limited to airport, aircraft and other designated locations as required. This role involves secure loading and unloading, adherence to aviation security protocols, and ensuring that all deliveries meet quality and hygiene standards. The position requires diligence, physical stamina, and excellence in demanding environment.

Duties & Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Safely operate company vehicles to deliver catering orders and equipment to airport, commercial aircraft, private jets, and any other client location as required.

  • Ensure accurate and on-time deliveries based on daily flight schedule and customer specification.

  • Follow designated airside routes and comply with airport driving regulations and speed limits.

  • Load and unload catering trolleys, containers, and food service equipment using appropriate handling procedures.

  • Assist with setting up or breaking down galley equipment per airline standards or specific requirements by utilizing loading diagrams.

  • Maintain cleanliness and proper storage of all transport equipment (carts, racks, bins, etc.).

  • Assist in unloading shipping containers and sorting items into designated storage zones.

  • Comply with all aviation security protocols, including ID checks, vehicle inspections, and restricted area access procedure (RAP).

  • Follow all food safety protocols and hygiene practices during loading, transit, and delivery.

  • Adhere to food safety and hygiene practices when handling perishables or high-risk food items.

  • Report any vehicle or equipment malfunctions immediately to the supervisor or maintenance team.

  • Assist with the preparation of equipment for flights and other clients in accordance with client and company specifications as required.

  • Complete delivery logs, equipment checklist, and return documentation accurately.

  • Communicate flight changes, delays, or delivery issues promptly to the Operations Supervisor.

  • Represent the company professionally while interacting with airport personnel, airline staff, or flight crew.

Qualifications & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
  • Valid driver’s license (Heavy Truck license); Eligibility to obtain Restricted Access Pass (RAP).
  • 1+ year of commercial driving experience
  • Prior experience in a regulated, time-sensitive environment is an asset.
  • Prior experience in food service, or hospitality, back-of-house operations (such as stewarding, banquet set-up, or food delivery will be considered an asset.

  • Ability to work shifts, including early morning, evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Familiarity with airport operations and aviation safety procedure (preferred).
  • Familiarity with food safety regulations (e.g., HACCP, or similar food safety programs).

Working Conditions

  • Split between driving, airside operations, and warehouse/kitchen environment.
  • Exposure to varying weather and temperature conditions.
  • Physically demanding role with repetitive lifting and movement.
  • Shift work includes early mornings, evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
