The Product Development (“PD”) Project Finance Manager will be responsible for developing and enhancing Project level variance reporting and analysis along with resource utilization & efficiency metrics.  This role will be expected to constantly improve the product development reporting processes while also supporting the Sr Manager – Commercial Finance with forecasting and reporting of the Global Product Development (“GPD”) organization while maintaining responsibility for inventory controls at our Austin, TX facility.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform monthly project level variance analysis of results and forecast vs. original business case, recent estimate, and annual operating plan.  Variance analysis includes suggested improvements to improve outcomes

  • Define and report on PD resource utilization & efficiency measurements

  • Provide month end support to Accounting for revenue recognition, completeness of reported labor hours, material costs incurred, and customer invoicing based on project milestones

  • Prepare Global Product Development (GPD) monthly operating review presentations which includes but not limited to performance analysis, monthly forecast of P&L and inventory, headcount and spend across multiple sites and departments

  • Assist the Commercial Finance Manager in developing PD funnel reporting, profitability, analysis, and life-cycle performance to plans

  • Drive continuous improvement of systems (Epicor PM, Domo, Workfront) and processes to yield better data visibility of project spend, labor, sales, etc.

  • Initiate and generate regular financial reporting for stakeholders, providing insights into project expenditures and financial health of projects

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to align financial strategies with project objectives

  • Participate in stage gate meetings to understand the status of projects

  • Establish Key Performance Indicators (“KPIs”) and determine triggers for project reviews, re-scoping, and customer interaction

  • Use data aggregation software to quickly assemble reports for projects

  • Review expenses and work with project managers and purchasing organizations to regularly monitor project performance against KPIs

  • On a weekly basis, review the status of projects in order to forecast invoicing of the customer and subsequently the revenue forecast for the week/month/year

  • Shepherd capital appropriation requests (CAR’s) through company approval process for GPD organization, including business case justification, DCF modeling, and cost modeling as required.

  • Manage application of site inventory control policy ensuring adequacy of controls, cycle counts, & valuation

  • Conduct cost-benefit analysis to evaluate the financial viability of proposed scope changes or improvements in the project against the revenues & margins generated

  • Conduct post-launch financial evaluation and assess the financial performance, identifying lessons learned and areas for improvement in future projects

  • Assist in the establishment, maintenance, and control of Master Data Management

  • Other duties may be assigned

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • BA/BS degree; Advanced degree strongly preferred

  • 5+ years Accounting and/or Finance experience in a Construction, Engineering, Professional Services or similar business model

  • 5+ years Project Management experience preferred

  • Direct knowledge of ASC 606 guidance on Percentage of Completion (“POC”) revenue recognition accounting

  • Able to synthesize large amounts of data, identify broad themes, & formulate insightful analysis

  • Demonstrated experience with MRP and project management systems

  • Experience with Workfront, Workday, or other Project Management applications

  • Must be highly proficient / Advanced user in MS Excel and Powerpoint

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate, present and influence credibly and effectively at all levels of the organization, including executive and C-level

  • Build strong relationships with peers, other departments, and managers to meet company goals

  • Excellent verbal and written communication/presentation skills

  • Able to work as a team player, set a positive example and develop effective relationships specifically Corporate Accounting and Operations
