Job Description
WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?
Supports the enterprise in achieving the business/operations, strategic priorities and operational performance goals of the Law Group, in particular the performance commitments of solution-oriented advice and responsiveness. Protect lines of business’ legal interests and maintains their respective operations within the scope established by law. Applies extensive, in-depth knowledge, skills, and practices to perform complex assignments relating to digital initiatives across RBC.
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
Work collaboratively with colleagues in the Digital & Client Experience legal team and act as senior legal advisor on enterprise digital and client experience initiatives across all business lines
Provide solution-focused legal advice and counsel to RBC enterprise businesses and functional partners globally in relation to digital initiatives and other emerging technology matters.
Provide advice on various matters including advice on new and amended product development, and related compliance and negotiation of client agreements and governance matters
Support advocacy and industry work relating to emerging technologies and digital issues
Provide legal advice on new technologies and strategic initiatives
Identify, assess and manage legal, regulatory, reputational and operational risks relating to digital banking and enterprise digital activities in an evolving and fast-paced environment
Draft and negotiate technology-related contracts, terms of use and other materials relating to the digital delivery of financial products and services
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?
Must have:
At least 7+ years of relevant experience in private practice or in-house
Bachelor of Law/Juris Doctor Degree (Common Law or Civil) from a recognized law school
Membership in provincial/territorial law society or bar association. Called to the Bar in any Canadian Province or Territory
Strong business acumen and ability to analyze legal risk in the context of business realities
Nice-to-have:
Experience in advocacy efforts, working with industry groups, and providing legal services relating to the emerging technology issues in Canada
Ability to communicate effectively and concisely with all levels of management and team members, and influence in a variety of formats and venues
Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy and excellent legal drafting and negotiation skills
