Job Description:

  • Role title:  Aboriginal Health Worker, Mental Health

  • Role type:  Permanent full time

  • Department and location: Community Mental Health Service, St Vincent’s Hospital, Darlinghurst

  • Salary: $60,398 - $83,957 + super

About the role

  • Be part of a friendly and supportive team and help deliver high-quality patient centred care

  • Support Aboriginal patients who are dealing with health-related issues, primary in mental health

  • Assist staff to provide culturally safe and respectful care to Aboriginal patients and families

  • Work in closely with Allied Health, care coordinators, and other health professionals in care planning

  • Contribute to achieving the outcomes of the Aboriginal health plan & national reconciliation action plan

About you

  • Be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent

  • Experience in effectively engaging with Aboriginal people in a health care setting

  • Experience working as a member of a multidisciplinary team in a high-demand environment

  • Experience in supporting people with mental health challenges, crisis intervention, short term solution focused intervention, assessment and care planning

  • Have a current driver’s license

  • Be able to undertake one 1pm-9:30pm shift per week

  • Have a qualification in Aboriginal Health/Education, Social Work, Psychology, Nursing, Welfare or equivalent.  This is desirable rather than mandatory
