Foundation Corporate Relations Associate

The Foundation and Corporate Relations Associate is a critical role within The Opportunity Alliance’s Development and Communications Department. This position helps TOA meet its mission by raising funds to support vital community programs, increasing awareness of the Agency’s impact on 20,000+ Mainers each year, and engaging foundation and corporate partners in TOA’s vision.

The Associate is responsible for researching prospective partners, cultivating relationships, preparing compelling proposals, soliciting funding requests, and stewarding existing partnerships to ensure sustainable funding. The Foundation and Corporate Relations Associate will be externally facing, with a focus on networking and relationships, while also being able to write strong funding proposals in a timely matter.

This role will work closely with the VP of Development and Communications to set goals and strategy for the department. Opportunity for hybrid work.

Additional details:

This role will support Development goals by identifying and managing foundation grants and reports.

  • Support and strengthen relationships with funders; develop individualized strategies for foundation prospects and partners.
  • Research funding opportunities and areas for growth and manage grant activities including monitoring and tracking of grant opportunities and reporting requirements.
  • Tailor proposals to match donor priorities and requirements.
  • In conjunction with VP prepare, write, and submit grant proposals.
  • Maintain regular reporting and reconcile income reports with the Development Coordinator and Finance team.

This role will also support Development goals by identifying and managing corporate donors (and their employees) in the community.

  • Manage a portfolio of donors tied to sponsorship, corporate giving, and/ or in-kind support.
  • Coordinate meetings, site visits, and other interactions to engage corporate prospects and donors.
  • Lead planning and execution of cultivation and fundraising events as well as sponsorship solicitation; work with Communications Associate on marketing and promotion of events.
  • Contribute to the identification of major donors--including individuals within corporate partners--for cultivation.
  • Work closely with the Development Coordinator on stewardship materials and donor recognition.
  • In partnership with TOA program teams, manage the Agency’s in-kind and volunteer program.
  • Work with the Communications Associate on donor communications and event promotion.

Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week. Mon – Fri regular business hours

Some flexibility is needed to attend events on weekend or evening hours.

Location: Office is based in South Portland, ME

Qualifications: 

  • A Bachelor’s degree preferred or high school diploma and equivalent record of professional achievement and qualifications with a demonstrated track record of success required.
  • 5 years of general work experience preferred.
  • Non-profit fundraising and grant writing (or similar experience) required.
  • Proven ability to effectively articulate clear and compelling messages.
  • Events experience preferred.
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills are required.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; must meet deadlines.
  • Ability to understand and utilize fundraising databases, software, and Internet search engines to identify funding prospects.
  • An understanding of development and desire to work closely with the process of soliciting gifts and building relationships with donors required. Ability to maintain confidentiality of donor records and information is absolutely required.
  • Strong organizational skills, an ability to manage multiple tasks and work as part of a team is preferred.
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency is a requirement.  Ability to conduct online research necessary. Proficiency with data entry, Microsoft Word, Excel; facility with database management preferred.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background, child protective service check & sex offender check.
  • Must not be on the state or federal suspension and disbarment list.
  • Normal office conditions such as sitting, with occasional standing, walking, reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, typing and lifting up to 10 pounds.
  • Driving may be necessary to attend meetings and trainings but is not a primarily and essential job responsibility.
