As the Technical Program Management function in the Portfolio Lifecycle Management (PLM) organization, we are an integral part of the cross-functional team responsible for coordinating program reporting across the Red Hat solutions portfolio. We work with geographically distributed representatives across Engineering, Business Unit (BU), Sales, Security, Support, Legal, Finance, and other extended teams. As a Technical Program Manager, we are the subject matter experts in program management standards, able to apply our skills and experience to foster collaboration across the different functions.  We help to motivate and drive accountability of the team’s commitments and deliverables while keeping an eye on continuous improvement.We’re looking for a Principal Program Manager to join our team. As part of our team, you’ll partner other organizations within Red Hat to facilitate project delivery and motivate teams to achieve program goals.We’re looking for a leader to steward critical strategic investments and transformational change by providing leadership and direction to programs. You’ll be responsible for planning and governance, and overseeing the successful output of a program, which is made up of multiple projects. You’ll help teams complete projects efficiently, working as a facilitator and motivator, and set shared milestones. You’ll manage cross team collaboration and reporting status for multiple projects. You’ll communicate to stakeholders at different levels of the organization to promote collaboration and coordination. You’ll communicate status for multiple projects and monitor achievement of program milestones.

What you will do

  • Provide overall program leadership, guidance, and manage all aspects of a given program, including requirements gathering, business case creation, and implementation
  • Provide steady leadership in the face of change and aggressive deadlines common to a rapidly growing company
  • Proactively support and coach project managers, helping project managers manage expectations of delivery and requirements, yielding consistent results
  • Ensure that the scope of the projects within the program align with business priorities
  • Manage program-level risks and inter-dependencies
  • Manage stakeholder communication and promote collaboration and coordination across broad categories of stakeholders
  • Lead cross-functional meetings and foster teamwork; drive escalation and resolution of issues
  • Provide technical expertise in planning, execution, and leadership of program, projects, and initiatives
  • Provide program reporting and status to senior management
  • Develop resourcing strategies to ensure optimum support for projects and for the day-to-day operational activities


What you will bring

  • Experience managing a portfolio of large and complex projects
  • More than 5+ years of project/program management experience, including large-scale complex projects, large portfolios OR equivalent management experience
  • Thorough understanding of project/program management techniques and methods
  • Excellent facilitation and presentation skills
  • Effective consultative and influencing approach
  • Ability to innovate under new and/or changing conditions
  • Ability to succeed in a dynamic matrix organization
  • Virtual and remote team leadership capability
  • Must have demonstrated leadership ability, business acumen, and industry knowledge
  • Strong knowledge of budgeting and resource allocation procedures
  • Experience working with project and portfolio management tools
  • Project management certification or program management certification are a plus
