New Glenn: This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.

  

As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and engineers (use as appropriate), you will be responsible for the people, processes, and tools that build our vehicles. The position will lead, mentor, and influence a team of manufacturing engineers and planners who are developing and supporting the electrical design, manufacturing, and testing for the New Glenn rocket assembly and integration processes. This position collaborates the Senior Manager of GS1 Integration to implement consistent, and reliable department fundamentals and processes. Responsibilities in this role include leading efforts to identify, develop, and deploy methodologies that improve operational excellence through quality, cost, design, and process. Our managers act as a negotiator between multiple and sometimes conflicting interests with the goal of organizational optimization.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate and balance daily execution of priorities and schedule across teams supporting various products in accordance with Blue Origin’s documented policies and procedures
  • Closely coordinate between program, project, and production managers to meet development and production objectives for launch vehicles
  • Ensure adequate resources of properly trained and qualified personnel are available
  • Champion and promote a safety and compliance culture
  • Perform root cause analyses and participate and support production system self-audits and corrective actions, as required
  • Maintain operational engagement and empower team members to ensure that hardware is manufactured, processed, packaged, and delivered error free, on time, and on budget
  • Assist with authoring, reviewing and approval of procedural manuals and processes
  • Actively coach, guide, and enable employees through participation in annual, mid-year reviews and calibration sessions

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS degree in engineering or equivalent technical field with 5+ years of engineering leadership experience
  • 10 years of direct manufacturing or manufacturing engineering experience
  • Practical experience with avionics, structures, and powerplant/engines avionics and hardware systems. (marine, commercial aircraft, military aircraft, or space vehicle)
  • Experience managing, coaching, and developing a hard-working teams to meet established objectives while delivering results and continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Ability to perform, make decisions, lead, and make forward progress in ambiguous environments
  • Strong safety record and attitude, including hands-on experience planning and conducting hazardous or critical operations and tests
  • Strong personnel, scheduling, planning, and project management skills
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion, Including mentoring direct reports.
  • Work off-shift, extended hours, and weekends when required
  • Perform other duties as assigned or otherwise beneficial to fulfilling the mission and vision
  • Must be able to gain U.S. Space force DBIDS access credentials
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with FAA CFR’s, industry methodologies, OSHA requirements
  • Experience developing, writing, and updating operating procedures
  • Six Sigma, Lean Six Sigma, MSG-3, 5-S, FMEA, PRA, and lean process awareness
  • Certification and/or training in various human factor / human performance skills
  • Experience in new, startup, or ambiguous operational environments
  • Proficiency in business and engineering software (i.e. MSOffice, Windchill, PLM, etc)
  • Experience with critical operations where real-time decision-making affects success
  • Exceptional organizational and analytical skills and a proven track record driving sophisticated projects with minimal guidance
