A Brief Summary of This Position

The associate is expected as the Brake Press Operator to be able to perform the following operations: set-up brake, load sheet on conveyor, layout and prep sheet, move sheet of raw steel into brake, bend sheet, and remove from brake. Operator must be able to calibrate with each set and fills in for other Brake Press operator on a limited basis once competence levels are met as needed. Maintain equipment for a variety of assembly.

Essential Function

  •       Work from the direction of the Production Supervisor
  •       Must bend product’s traps and/or parts by using an overhead magnetic crane to move the material
  •       Enter the necessary data into the press brake’s computer and complete required reports and record the appropriate data with accuracy
  •       Prep and set up the materials by grinding and marking.
  •       Able to express problems to the leadperson and the supervisor.  
  •        Perform work timely to deliver an on-time product without manufacturing errors.
  • Wear the required PPE at all times. 
  • Verify thickness of material using a caliper

Important Details about the Role

  •        Able to perform the requirements of the job, including lifting, bending, stooping, and twisting. 
  • Inherent smoke and metal dust and temperature changes can be expected.
  •        Able to work in a team environment
  •        The associate will have to be able to prioritize work in order to complete deadlines.  They must also be able to work through problem with the minimum amount of assistance from the leadperson or the supervisor.  This will include maintaining a clean work area.
  •        Operate various pieces of equipment and machinery e.g. grinders and measuring devices.
  • Setup, operate, and perform general maintenance of equipment
  • Submit two (2) safety contact cards on a monthly basis
  • Actively participate in department LEAN activities and demonstrated performance working in a team environment
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Valmont’s quality procedures, standards, and practices
  • Understand the required WI (work instructions) for job

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • This position requires the associate to be able to edit the program and reset the CNC Press Brake, trouble shoot operating malfunctions, and be well versed in operator’s knowledge of the equipment.
  • Must be able to read and decipher flat sheets without assistance and use them to properly lay out and bend required materials.
  • A high awareness for safety at all times
  • Able to make mathematical calculations in preparing the product or setting up the machinery.
  • Must be able to physically perform the requirements of the task assigned
  • Able to lift, push, pull or tug up to 50 pounds.
  • Communicate and interact with coworkers in a positive manner.
  • The ability to pay attention to detail and follow work instructions.
  • Knowledgable on both ends (north and south) of the Brake Press
  • Able to read and decipher flat sheets without assistance and for proper lay out and bend.
  • Knowledge of quality requirements and standards.
  • Ability to prioritize work in order to complete deadlines to deliver an on-time result without errors.
  • Able to work through problem with minimal assistance from the lead or supervisor.
  • Able to maintain an acceptable level of production and quality
  • At least minimum of one (1) years experience in Brake Press/CNC machinery or no experience, and has graduated within a related study from an accredited trade school .

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Maintains high levels of operation on both the north and south ends of the Press Brake
  • At least minimum of one to two (1 - 2) years experience in Brake Press/CNC machinery or no experience, and has graduated within a related study from an accredited trade school
