About the Role 

Bio-Techne is seeking a highly detail oriented and technically proficient Advanced Scientific Data Management Specialist to support the accuracy, automation, and operational reliability of scientific product data used across our global web platforms. Our team manages complex datasets for over 100 suppliers, each with unique scientific attributes, metadata requirements, and formatting rules. This role blends data operations, automation, analytics, and scientific content management.

What You’ll Do 

Daily Data Operations & Technical Support 

  • Maintain and update scientific product data within multiple internal systems (Microsoft Dynamics AX, Master Data Services and proprietary software) 
  • Troubleshot data issues, workflow failures, and software behavior across systems 
  • Support daily operational workflows to ensure data accuracy and system reliability 
  • Assist with product releases, data migrations, and software updates by preparing and validating structured datasets 

Automation & Technical Tools 

  • Use data-wrangling tools such as Excel, Python, or R to process, transform, validate, and analyze large scientific datasets 
  • Write complex SQL queries to retrieve, analyze, and troubleshoot data across multiple databases. 
  • Build insightful Power BI dashboards and reports that help stakeholders visualize trends, identify issues, and make informed decisions. 
  • Support automation initiatives by helping build cleaner, more scalable workflows. 

Scientific Content Management 

  • Standardize, and validate scientific product information  
  • Transform raw data into Bio-Techne’s structured, compliant formatting 
  • Ensure consistency across complex scientific datasets and naming conventions 
  • Work within established SOPs to maintain high data integrity 

Data Quality Assurance 

  • Perform multilayered QC checks to identify inconsistencies, errors, and missing data 
  • Validate large datasets against business rules and established automation checks 
  • Conduct peer reviews and help enforce high quality data standards, and data integrity data standards 

Cross Functional Collaboration 

  • Partner with scientists, product managers, web teams, and other stakeholders to clarify data details and troubleshoot issues 
  • Communicate clearly about blockers, automation errors, or data anomalies 
  • Fulfill ad hoc requests for marketing and project management stakeholders 

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree (required) in Biology, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Data Science, or other related fields 
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy 
  • Familiarity and experience using scripting languages such as Python, R or PowerShell
  • Familiarity and experience querying databases with SQL
  • Basic understanding of relational databases and schema. 
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Looker 
  • Comfortable working with complex systems, structured data, and automation tools 
  • Ability to learn new software platforms and follow detailed workflows 
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to ask clarifying questions 
  • Ability to stay focused through a mix of repetitive tasks and complex problem solving
