As a Restaurant Service Representative, quality and customer satisfaction are your highest priorities. Working as part of a team committed to providing a quality customer experience, you will assist in a variety of food service-related tasks. Work areas include cafeteria meal service; sit-down catering; buffet service; break service; dish room; and storerooms.  At all times, the safest possible food handling practices are used, including thorough washing of produce; proper thawing of meat; sanitizing of work surfaces; thorough hand washing.

You will perform minor cooking functions such as grilling, sautéing, frying, and steaming. You will operate cash registers and maintains proper cash handling and supplies records. You will communicate with customers and restaurant employees regarding questions/issues, menu, preparation methods, and services. Work location and assignments vary according to business need, customer demand, and staffing changes.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Based on assignment in areas such as, but not limited to, cafeteria meal service, sit-down catering service, buffet service and break service. 

  • Service requirements include plating food in a cafeteria style station, preparing and maintaining buffets, taking orders at sit-down luncheons and bussing tables during and after service. 

  • Serves food in a manner consistent with restaurant specifications, and with concern for neatness, portion and presentation. 

  • Performs some minor cooking functions such as grilling, sautéing, frying, steaming and assembly of cold food items for service. 

  • Operates cash registers and maintains proper records of cash handling and supplies.

  • Routinely delivers on Restaurant Hospitality standards. 

  • Communicates with customers through routine greeting and providing information verbally regarding the menu, preparation methods and services. 

  • Responds to any questions or concerns with the approach of immediate resolution of concerns or corrective action on matters that may be impacting the customer experience.

  • In compliance with Restaurant Division Professional Conduct Expectations and maintains professional communication with all.

  • Based on assignment, sets up and cleans up cafeteria or catering area by completing tasks that include, but are not limited to the following: reading and understanding the menu/recipe of items to be served, reviews station/buffet service diagram, sets up appropriate cleaning solutions, retrieves correct utensils and equipment, and has knowledge outside of their assignment to understand entire service offering for the day/event.

  • Routinely practices safe food handling techniques in all areas of the job as outlined in food safety standards, including thorough hand washing, glove usage, monitors temperatures and cleaning solutions, and compliance of food code standards to reduce the risk of communicable disease. 

  • Practices safe ergonomic and personal safety techniques in all aspects of work as outlined in restaurant standards, including the proper use of personal protective equipment and observance of proper body mechanics.

  • Assists where needed to assure smooth service flow and a positive customer experience. 

  • Assists in all areas of the food service including dish rooms, kitchen, storerooms and other areas that may need assistance or as assigned to accomplish business needs. 

  • Assistance may include, but is not limited to, cleaning, sorting and stocking dishes and stocking foods. 

  • Assist with minor food preparation on occasion. 

  • May change work location, tasks or assignments throughout the day to adjust to changes in business need.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Food service experience preferred which includes customer service skills along with organization, flexibility and good judgment in making sound decisions.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of food service techniques, including catering practices preferred.

  • Must have demonstrated ability to interpret written instructions and effectively communicate with the work team.

  • Demonstrated knowledge in food safety practices preferred.

  • High degree of personal initiative and motivation combined with a willingness to work as part of a team.

  • Must have the ability to perform the essential physical requirements of the job.
