The Legal and Group Secretariat team provides expert advice and assistance to the Group to achieve its strategic goals and priorities, including by identifying and appropriately managing legal and regulatory risks. 

The Employment Legal Team partners with Human Resources (HR) and Business Units to support our people strategies, and ensuring legal risks and matters are appropriately recognised and managed. You will deliver high value legal advice and representation to the Group across the full range of employment, safety and discrimination legal matters.

Do work that matters:

As a Senior Legal Counsel, you will work directly with our human resources colleagues and business leaders to develop solutions in all employment related matters from the development of innovative employee benefits to employment related litigation.

You will also be responsible for providing high quality strategic legal advice to the Group’s Human Resources teams and other internal stakeholders in respect of all employment, safety and discrimination matters. Your role will include managing employee related litigation (including advocacy work in the Fair Work Commission and other Tribunals), advising on the legislative and industrial framework within which the Group operates and providing legal support in respect of workplace relations matters.

You will maintain a deep understanding of the Group’s legal and regulatory risk appetite and aligning your role to support the successful implementation of the Group’s strategic priorities and goals.

We’re interested in hearing from people who have:

  • 7+ years relevant post admission experience, including at least 3 years specialising in Employment law.

  • Tertiary qualifications in Law and admitted to practice in NSW or another State or Territory.

  • Demonstrated deep understanding of the legal and regulatory framework relating to Employment, Discrimination and Safety law.

  • Advocacy experience in the Fair Work Commission or other relevant Tribunal(s).

  • Strong negotiation skills and experience, including in resolving litigious matters.

  • Sound judgment that will enable you to appropriately balance legal, commercial and customer considerations.

  • Excellent legal technical skills including the ability to quickly grasp, communicate, negotiate and resolve issues across a range of employment related matters.
