Overview

Reporting to the Executive Director of the Career Management Center (CMC) at the Yale School of Public Health, the Senior Associate Director helps manage the career education and coaching practice of the CMC. The Sr AD also advises students studying at YSPH in exploring career paths and developing and implementing their career plans. The Sr. AD creates and delivers a range of services and resources aimed at helping YSPH students find fulfilling careers and achieve success in their professional lives. In this role, the Sr. AD will:

Career Education & Coaching: Take a leadership role in providing direction and management of the coaching practice. Keep CMC team abreast of new developments in career coaching and ways of instituting industry best practices. Provide individual counseling to graduate students at every stage of career development and the job/internship search process. Through regular research and outreach, maintain solid understanding of job market for each YSPH department as well as career development trends across the healthcare field.
 
Data analytics: Manage process for collection and distribution of key metrics for internship and employment outcomes. Liaise with web coordinators to ensure timely display of data throughout virtual channels. Contribute content for website, Canvas, as well as for annual reports and other communications.
 
Programming: Work with the Executive Director to develop and execute a rich portfolio of programs, workshops, and initiatives in collaboration with employers and alumni that support the diverse interests and needs of YSPH students. Research and implement best practices in service delivery. Includes on-campus, off-campus, and virtual events. Create content for and help administer the Professional Skills Seminar – the skills training program for incoming students.
 
Communications: Oversee the CMC’s main communications tool – the weekly e-newsletter (CareerTalk). Create and solicit content, edit, and distribute to students, faculty and staff.
 
Coordinate the Career Office’s efforts to maintain a vibrant and effective coaching practice based on industry best practices. Stay on top of industry trends to identify new developments in the field of career counseling and advising. Contribute to national associations and forums around career readiness. Identify career-related materials and resources of relevance to YSPH students; create additional materials and provide content for distribution in newsletter, on website, targeted listservs. Counsel students on summer internships to help them meet the practice-requirement as well as summer funding process for unpaid experiences. Provide individual career counseling, mock interviews, resume & cover letter review, and networking expertise to YSPH students. Manage career technology systems, including the 12Twenty platform. Liaise with vendors and troubleshoot any problems. Oversee student workers and administrative assistant who assist with data entry and cleaning. Oversee the distribution of summer funding for APE approved internships. Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Abilities

1. Demonstrated ability to counsel and advise students in a higher education setting. Excellent customer service orientation.

2. Demonstrated ability to design, initiate and manage projects involving a high degree of detail and requiring strong organization and time-management skills.

3. Demonstrated experience managing multiple, deadline-specific responsibilities.

4. Excellent written communication skills, especially business communication.

5. Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a high-performing team in a fast-paced and changing environment. High degree of initiative to identify opportunities to improve existing programs and processes and to develop new ones.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills

1. Knowledge of career coaching theory and practical applications.

2. Strong computer literacy skills including internet research tools, social media, excel, and presentation software (power point) and career management technology and data systems.

3. Previous experience advising college and/or university students, including international students.

4. Master’s degree in higher education counseling with 10 yrs of experience highly preferred.

Principal Responsibilities

1. Plans and executes admission, financial aid, internship, and career services programs. Prepares and submits recommendations to admissions and financial aid committees. Plans and cultivates new corporate relationships to generate job opportunities both domestically and internationally. 2. Participates in long-range planning; recommends and contributes to the development of career services, financial aid, and admissions policies. 3. Provides guidance, advices and counseling on academic, admissions, financial , and career services matters to students and prospective students. Works with students, alumni and employers to identify existing and emerging employment opportunities. 4. Develops and analyzes statistical data to determine patterns and trends that impact and inform the direction of the admissions or financial aid. Conducts ongoing research on employment trends and evolving industry-specific recruiting and talent management needs. 5. Develops budgets and loan repayment schedules. 6. Develops systems for admissions and financial aid activities. Leads projects to continuously improve use of technology. 7. Writes publications to inform students of developments within financial aid and admissions offices. 8. Organizes and conducts corporate presentations, networking nights, and career fairs. Guide employers in developing and executing on-and off campus strategies for attracting University talent. 9. Supervises and trains a staff of exempt and non-exempt employees. 10. May perform other duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field and five years of experience in a related area or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
