As part of a diverse and hardworking team of specialists, you will provide domain expertise to engineering and production resources related to EHS for various spaceflight systems. You will share in the team’s impact on safety and health compliance with local, state, and federal regulations at the Huntsville Engine Manufacturing Facility or Marshal Space Flight Center (MSFC) – 4670 Test Stand including, but not limited to: OSHA General Industry and Construction Standards. You will ensure environmental compliance with local, state, and federal regulations at the MSFC-4670 Test Stand, but not limited to: NEPA, RCRA, SWPPP, SPCC, and NPDES.

Other responsibilities may include:

  • Prepare and submit reports to federal and state regulatory agencies, as required
  • Continually update and ensure compliance with the Blue Origin Health and Safety Manual
  • Create, update, and coordinate emergency response plans with state and local emergency planning committees
  • Conduct studies and collect data to determine sources of industrial safety and health hazards.
  • Manage hazardous waste activities for the MSFC-4670 Test Stand
  • Lead incident investigations to identify root causes and corrective actions
  • Develop, update, and deliver EHS training
  • Evaluate operations for continuous process improvement and implementation of preventive action measures
  • Understand and apply advanced technical knowledge base of safety and industrial hygiene regulations, concepts, practices, and principles
  • Anticipate and recognize hazards, evaluate exposures, and offer control methods to protect employees from risks
  • Lead all aspects of hazardous operations including cryogenics, ordnance, critical crane lifts, lead/asbestos abatement...etc.
  • Conduct routine facility inspections (i.e., emergency egress, electrical, machine guarding, chemical, working walking surfaces, etc.) to ensure a safe and healthy working environment.
  • Conduct Personal Protective Equipment assessments and promote awareness when an item or piece of equipment has been recalled or is defective
  • Support development of job hazard analyses
  • Perform periodic audits of our EHS Programs

Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of EHS work experience
  • 2+proven years work experience in operational aerospace environment, manufacturing, or chemical industry
  • Ability to work 2nd shift schedule: 1:30pm-10pm CST
  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering, chemistry, environmental science, industrial hygiene, or occupational safety
  • Knowledge of applicable safety and Alabama environmental regulations
  • Knowledge of Process Safety Management methods
  • Knowledge of close call reporting practices and processes
  • Good analytical skills and attention to details, technical writing, with an ability to interpret and communicate sophisticated technical information
  • Indoctrinate new employees on our EHS Program
  • Candidate must be able to lift/carry up to fifty pounds and be able to physically climb multiple flights stairs, withstand prolonged standing, and work in adverse weather conditions
  • Willing to support long hours, shift work, and weekends as needed
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to our inclusive culture.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Desired:

  • 8+ years total work
  • 5+ years proven work experience in operational aerospace environment, manufacturing, or chemical industry
  • Expertise in Life Safety Code (NFPA 101)
  • HAZMAT and/or emergency response team experience
  • ASP, CSP, CIH, or CHMM certification
