Purpose and Scope:

Perform welding and fabricating activities, which entails various types of welds and layouts, including some installation and maintenance of piping systems. This position is in support of the Air Force Contract Augmentation Program (AFCAP) and is located at Ascension Island Auxiliary Airfield (AAAF).

Essential Responsibilities:             

  • Operate, inspect, maintain and repair structural components in all prescribed facilities and RPIE systems, both interior and exterior and other equipment installed in or on the facilities.
  • Maintain facility finishes which includes a variety of interior and exterior finishes such as concrete, masonry, wood, metal, sheet rock, paints, foundations, wall coverings, floor coverings (to include raised computer room flooring), and stucco or plaster.
  • Maintain and repair roof systems including gutters, fall protection tie-offs, built-up, asphalt and fiberglass shingles, rubber membrane, corrugated metal, and standing seam metal and any other roofing types on AAAF IAW AFI 32-1001, UFGS 07 51 13, and UFC3-110-04.
  • Layout, fit, and weld components to assemble structural forms, such as machine frames, tanks, pressure vessels, furnace shells, and building parts according to blueprints.
  • Repair products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts using cutting torch, straightening press, and hand tools.
  • Fabricate, assemble, install, and maintain piping and piping systems, fixtures, and equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and industrial processing systems on basis of knowledge of system operation and study of building plans or working drawings.
  • Plan sequence of installation to ensure effective communication between all phases of installation.

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Craftsmen shall have an equivalent of an Air Force minimum 5 level or equal and 5 years’ experience in their respective trades.
  • Must be American Welder Society certified.
  • High school diploma or equivalent training & experience.
  • Ability to read and write English is required.
  • Solid communications skills, strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong ability to work as a member of a diverse, dynamic team.
  • Outstanding problem-solving skills and sound judgment. 
  • Candidate should be other country national (OCN) or local national (LN).
  • Possess a valid driver’s license, passport from their country have ability to obtain any visa required. 
  • Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain requirements for duration of deployment.
  • Prior overseas government contracting experience preferred.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

  • Able to stand for long periods of time such as eight (8) to ten (10) hours, bend, kneel, and reach to store/retrieve supplies.
  • Able to lift, carry, and push supplies and boxes up to 50 pounds.
  • Work includes facilities, towers, antennas, security control and locks, cranes and hoists, corrosion control, heavy metals in paint, and asbestos removal and disposal services. 
  • Living and working conditions at the assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable. 
  • Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions.
  • Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions. 
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
