Summary of the position:

The Quality Engineer Supervisor is responsible for establishing and maintaining a professional proactive relationship between the organization and the quality department for each product group. This person will be the lead contact concerning manufacturing and customer quality and responsible for obtaining complete problem resolution with the goal of zero defects through continuously improving the internal processes. In addition, this individual will be responsible for monitoring key performance indicators (KPI’s) and actively working with Operations, Engineering, and Supplier Quality on corrective actions to obtain stated departmental goals.

Provide supervision and leadership of the Manufacturing Quality Team (Quality Engineers and Technicians) to ensure assigned tasks and problem resolution are completed in a timely and proficient manner.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Champion cross functional team problem solving team activities for resolution of assembly issues and test cell failures (including drawing interpretation, measurements of parts, work instruction review).
  • Champion projects to improve quality of processes, products and components as a result of internal/external findings, customer complaints, and warranty analysis.  Perform joint analysis of complex problems with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supplier Quality and other departments, to determine root cause and support development of countermeasures.
  • Champions the Okay to Ship (OKTS) process of machines to ensure customer satisfaction and drive improvements back to assembly and design.
  • Maintains and communicates quality manufacturing performance to the organization by maintaining Key Performance Indicators (KPI) which are assigned to Manufacturing Quality.
  • Measures and drives internal quality performance improvements for Manufacturing Quality KPIs.
  • Works with operations on process evaluation and continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate and participates with Design and Manufacturing Engineering to develop high quality designs and processes during Global New Product Development Launches.
  • Participates in Quality Management activities (QMS / Process audits, document review, etc.)
  • Continually monitoring Team assignments to assure adequate coverage to support operations and other Quality Team responsibilities.  Modify work schedules as needed to meet business needs.
  • Approving and scheduling vacation requests based on business needs.
  • Providing job rotations to ensure adequate and continually trained personnel for job coverage and departmental flexibility.
  • Manages a training program for Quality Engineers and Technicians to increase Team knowledge, utilization and efficiency. 
  • Understanding the requirements of SAP Receipt Routing, First Article Inspections, RMAs and the QN process.
  • Assuring the decisions made and communication regarding product conformance are fact-based and professional.
  • Holding direct reports accountable to uphold HGAP values and policies; issuing discipline as required in conjunction with the Human Resource department.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Prefer B.S or M.S. in Engineering (Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical, or Manufacturing) or 10 years' experience
  • ASQ Certification – CQM, CQA, CQE preferred.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt a plus.

Professional experience:

  • Experience: 10 or more years of experience in Quality Assurance and/or supervision.
  • Must have solid understanding of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18001 management systems. Certification as Internal Auditor preferred.
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills, including demonstrated leadership ability and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to think critically, anticipating/recognizing problems and resolving in a timely manner.
  • Possess a general working knowledge of automotive or industrial manufacturing quality tools: AIAG, PPAP, FMEA, Control Plan, 8D, MSA and Statistical Process Control (SPC) standards.
  • Knowledgeable with hands-on experience in the application of Lean and Six Sigma including the following tools: Value Stream Mapping, Cpk/Ppk, GR&R, Sampling Plans, Kaizen, 5S, Statistical Analysis, 5 why’s, Root Cause analysis, VOC, QFD, Error Proofing, Robust Design, Cause and Effect Diagrams, Pareto Analysis, etc.
  • Ability to read blueprints and measure parts with quality hand tools (caliper, micrometer, thread gages, etc.)
  • Must be proficient in Outlook, MSWord, Excel, PowerPoint.
