GEICO is seeking an experienced Finance Systems Engineer with a passion for building high-performance, low maintenance, zero-downtime platforms, and applications. You will help drive our insurance business transformation as we transition from a traditional IT model to a tech organization with engineering excellence as its mission, while co-creating the culture of psychological safety and continuous improvement.
Our Senior Staff Engineer works with other Engineers to innovate and build new systems, improve and enhance existing systems as well as identify new opportunities to apply your knowledge to solve critical problems. You will lead the strategy and execution of a technical roadmap that will increase the velocity of delivering products and unlock new engineering capabilities. The ideal candidate has deep technical and functional expertise in Finance Systems and has experience across multiple companies to introduce best practices leveraging their broad and deep knowledge of various ERPs (e.g. PeopleSoft; Oracle EBS; Oracle Cloud; Hyperion; Workday; or SAP).
Position Responsibilities
As a Senior Staff Engineer, you will:
Focus initially on the Finance domain and provide technical and thought leadership before helping the enterprise drive technology solutioning
Leverage your deep Technical and Functional Finance systems expertise to drive towards the right solution to support the department and GEICO’s current and future needs
Engage in cross-functional collaboration throughout the entire software lifecycle.
Provide support for Workday inbound and outbound integration issues, changes to existing integrations and develop new integrations
Lead design sessions with peers to ensure systems are well designed, efficient, and meet Business expectations
Leverage experience with various ERPs (e.g. PeopleSoft; Oracle EBS; Oracle Cloud; Hyperion; Workday; or SAP) to enhance existing applications or build new ones to support GEICO’s Finance organization
Leverage your deep understanding of Finance, Accounting, and Management Reporting to drive solutions to meet business requirements
Collaborate with product managers, team members, customers, and other engineering teams to solve our toughest problems
Develop and execute technical software development strategy across the Finance Systems domain
Accountable for the quality, usability, and performance of the solutions
Utilize programming languages like Java or other object-oriented languages, SQL, and NoSQL databases, Container Orchestration services including Docker and Kubernetes, and a variety of Azure tools and services
Be a role model and mentor, helping to coach and strengthen the technical expertise and know-how of our engineering and product community. Influence and educate executives
Consistently share best practices and improve processes within and across teams
Analyze cost and forecast, incorporating them into business plans
Determine and support resource requirements, evaluate operational processes, measure outcomes to ensure desired results, and demonstrate adaptability and sponsoring continuous learning
Qualifications
20+ years of Finance Systems experience with industry leading ERP solutions (e.g. implementing and supporting PeopleSoft; Oracle EBS; Oracle Cloud; Hyperion; Workday; or SAP)
Deep Finance domain expertise to be able to interpret Finance requirements into system solutions
Experience with designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining solutions for complex integrations
Strong understanding of Accounting process; Management reporting philosophies; and cross-finance practices to ensure data, integrations, and solutions are well designed
Experience with developing systems that are scalable, resilient, and highly available
8+ years of experience with architecture and design
Experience in working with data mart/repository/lake to support enterprise functions
Experience architecting and designing new systems
Understanding of monitoring concepts and tooling
Ability to communicate and work directly with business leaders across Technology and Finance
Exemplary ability to design, perform experiments, and influence engineering direction and product roadmap
Experience partnering with engineering teams and transferring research to production
Experience with continuous delivery
Experience solving analytical problems with quantitative approaches
Ability to excel in a fast-paced, startup-like environment
Knowledge of developer tooling across the software development life cycle (task management, source code, building, deployment, operations, real-time communication)
Fluency and Specialization with at least two modern languages such as Java, C++, Python or C# including object-oriented design is a plus
Experience with Micro-services oriented architecture and extensible REST APIs is beneficial
Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented collaborative environment
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent education or work experience

Annual Salary
$110,000.00 - $261,500.00The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
