Team & Opportunity

The Public Relations team at Vanguard Australia sits within Vanguard’s Corporate Communications function which includes Internal Communications and Strategic Communications. As Vanguard Australia continues to grow as business, so has the role of its public relations function.

In this role as a Public Relations Manager, you will work to increase awareness of the Vanguard Australia brand and continue to enhance its reputation among retail investors and the general public, by developing and implement effective communication strategies and plans that support this focus. You will have the ability to independently identify, collaborate and maintain relationships across best media and channels for effective communication to engage various audiences. This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports.

Core Responsibilities

  • Develops communications solutions that drive identified outcomes. Translates business strategies and initiatives into messaging and content. Prioritises communications and messages to maximise impact on target audiences and business outcomes.
  • Primarily responsible for driving the consumer-focused aspect of Vanguard Australia’s public relations strategy
  • Creates effective and compelling communications content based on deep understanding of target audience and the broader operating environment.
  • Drives the execution of all phases of the communications process, including conception, implementation, and measurement. Leads day-to-day communication activities.
  • Resolves conflicts over content or communication channel recommendations by acting as a trusted advisor to influence, coach, and negotiate with stakeholders.
  • Improves end-to-end communication processes by applying current and evolving industry standards, while complying with the Vanguard brand.
  • Develops and strengthens working relationships with key influencers across the organisation and in the industry to support communications and business objectives.
  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience (minimum seven years) in public relations roles within financial services and related fields is highly desirable.
  • Ability to build and expand relationships with journalists, ability to generate standout media coverage and pitch stories in consumer media
  • Exceptional research skills and written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify and convey complex policy issues to diverse audiences.
  • Extensive understanding of social, political and regulatory developments that are of relevance to our firm, our clients and our staff
  • Proven ability to nurture strategic partnerships with both internal and external stakeholders, leveraging your influence to create a robust network that drives our brand forward.
