The Opportunity

This position works out of our Ottawa, Ontario location in the Point of Care, Diagnostics division. We’re empowering smarter medical and economic decision making to help transform the way people manage their health at all stages of life.   Our Point of Care diagnostic portfolio spans key health and therapeutic areas, including infectious disease, cardiometabolic, informatics and toxicology.  In this role you are a primary production resource on the chemistry operations team, and you will assist in the day-to-day activities to enhance shift efficiency.

What You’ll Do

• In addition to a primary production role, incumbent will assist within day-to-day activities and promote overall shift efficiency.

• Participates in the day-to-day activities within the laboratory. This includes (but is not limited to): equipment checks, cleaning, autoclaving, stocking the lab with necessary raw materials and lab supplies as per documented procedures.

• Performs a sequence of operations or tasks where standard procedures or recognized operational methods are available and/or prescribed. Relies on instructions and established guidelines to accomplish work.

• Prepares solutions, as required daily.

• Performs regular equipment maintenance.

• Works under regular supervision, in accordance with direction and established work routine.

• Matters which deviate from the routine are referred to the supervisor.

• Plans and organizes routine and non-routine tasks according to established objectives and work schedules.

• Solves problems using technical knowledge and commonly used concepts, practices and procedures within a given area or function.

• Communicates ideas and suggestions for improving processes to leadership.

• Understands and complies with Quality and EH&S policies, procedures, and guidelines.

• Safeguards the environment and facilitates a safe and healthy workplace culture.

• Monitors product flow, raw materials and other key consumables in designated area and manages them to meet production targets.

• Follows and ensures compliance to workplace operating and environmental, health and safety procedures and guidelines.

• Assists with regular Health and Safety audits in area of responsibility recording and reporting findings to Supervisor.

• Other miscellaneous duties as may be required.

Required Qualifications

• 2–3-years college diploma in a related field

• 0-2 years relevant work experience in a technical job preferred.

• Ability to plan, organize and prioritize own daily work to meet established schedule.

• Detail-oriented.

• Resourcefulness, ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.

• A knowledge of safety and health procedures.

• Knowledge of Quality requirements within a regulated, GMP environment.

• Familiarity with any of the following is an asset:  analytical chemistry, chemistry techniques and equipment.

• Shift Nights D Shift: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and every other Saturday from 6:30 pm to 6:30 am.
