Job Description Summary
The Engineering Technical Leader provides technical guidance and oversight for the Water Steam Cycle team within PSD Engineering for power island mechanical equipment. The Technical Leader will develop and establish processes and provide technical mentorship to ensure adequate design rigor for team engineering design scope. This leader also serves as the team’s tactical focal point, ensuring execution excellence with analysis, design studies, drawings, specifications and customer technical issue resolution for water steam cycle systems. This position enables growth in technical breadth, strengthening of project management skills, and exposure to coaching and mentoring other engineers.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities (Internal)

- Improve component level harmonization across the portfolio to drive standard design & increase integration with neighboring teams in CCP
- Drive common tools and processes to advance standard work and lean within PSD
- Lead and execute engineering design and development consisting of a variety of engineering calculations and analyses, rigorous documentation of results, and implementation of design decisions into the product.
- Lead new product development (NPI) for WSC equipment. Partner with Systems and Controlled Title Holders to strike the right balance between program spend, product cost, performance, & reliability.
- Lead cost out initiatives in the team for WSC mech equipment while ensuring quality will be maintained or improved.
- Perform engineering which results in the highest quality product for GE customers, for assigned systems, sub-systems, and components, ensuring that critical requirements such as product cost, product technical performance, and project schedule are satisfied.
- Develop and execute program milestone schedules and engineering resource plans to satisfy customer requirements for all assigned projects; which may include leading or mentoring less experienced engineers.
- Develop and bring forth innovative ideas for future technologies, working with others in the team to bring Patent and IP protection to strengthen our competitiveness through technology.
- Ensure accurate and timely definition and preparation of system functional and operational requirements, engineering drawings, and functional specifications. Be 100% accountable for quality and on time delivery of product / drawings, reports, and specifications.
- Strengthen daily partnership with arrangement, system engineering, HEX and suppliers, also other adjacent engineering teams and functions in the execution of assigned projects.
- Engage and contribute to ongoing continuous product and process quality improvement initiatives, including improving the maintainability, performance, compliance safety, cost, and reliability of designs through design practices, initiatives, and direct material productivity.
- Provide real-time engineering support to Commissioning, Sourcing, Product Service, Projects team and other teams as required.
- Provide technical mentorship to professional, lead professional, and senior professional engineers in the team.
- Provide weekly reporting of PSD KPI and proactively communicate risk. Partner with manager to mitigate risk and/or prioritize and inform stakeholders.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering
- 8 years of experience in power plant system and equipment design
Desired Characteristics
- Self-motivated and able to develop, document, and execute engineering assignments with limited supervision
- Engineering design and validation experience in power plant equipment in the water steam cycle, such as Bypass Systems, feedwater and condensate systems
- Experience working with flow modeling software
- Experience working with drafting software (Visio and Aveva)
- Experience working with a global engineering team
- Ability to rapidly change directions for multiple concurrent projects based on emergent business priorities
- Ability to mentor less experienced engineers both locally and across a global team environment
- Effective interpersonal and influencing skills
- Effective communication skills, oral and written
- Demonstrated track record of delivering for the business
