Leidos’ National Security Sector delivers technology‑enabled services and mission‑focused software solutions across cyber, logistics, security operations, and decision analytics. We support defense and intelligence customers as they confront rapidly evolving global threats, ensuring they have the tools, technologies, and operational strategies needed to protect people and critical assets.

Within this mission, the Intelligence Production Solutions Division (IPSD), part of the Decision Advantage Solutions Business Area, is seeking a Mid‑Level Systems Engineer to join the Chinook Program. In this role, you will be part of a highly skilled team delivering advanced geospatial intelligence (GEOINT) capabilities through modern systems engineering practices. Your work will directly support the Customer’s mission to provide timely, accurate, and mission‑critical intelligence to national decision‑makers and warfighters.

Primary work location: Gaithersburg, MD

Additional locations: Alexandria, VA; Chantilly, VA; Aurora, CO; St. Louis, MO; Tucson, AZ

Clearance Requirement: Top Secret with SCI eligibility and the ability to obtain a Polygraph.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Contribute to system architecture design, requirements development, integration planning, and configuration management.

  • Provide engineering expertise across the full system lifecycle—from concept and design through deployment and sustainment.

  • Collaborate with Customer and contractor stakeholders to ensure interoperability, scalability, and mission alignment.

  • Assess and recommend tools, methodologies, and processes to enhance system development and integration.

  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including interface control documents (ICDs) and engineering reports.

  • Participate in technical reviews, readiness assessments, and milestone events.

  • Analyze system performance and propose optimization strategies.

Basic Qualifications

  • U.S. citizenship (required by contract).

  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with 4–8 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with 2–6 years of experience.

  • Strong understanding of systems engineering principles, including requirements management, integration and test, and configuration control.

  • Familiarity with Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools and methodologies (e.g., Cameo, SysML).

  • Experience working within DoD or Intelligence Community environments.

  • Proficiency with Atlassian tools (JIRA, Confluence), Microsoft Office Suite, and collaboration platforms.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certifications such as INCOSE SEP, CISSP, Security+, or similar.

  • Experience supporting Customer programs or working within the GEOINT lifecycle.

  • Knowledge of cloud architectures (AWS, C2S) and DevSecOps environments.

  • Familiarity with Agile and SAFe methodologies.

  • Experience supporting GEOINT missions.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $87,100.00 - $157,450.00
