What You Will Achieve

This position will be an integral part of building out a world-class Program Management Office team to support the execution of capital projects for Pfizer on a global scale. As a Senior Associate, your knowledge and skills will contribute towards the goals and objectives of the team. Your focus and ability to meet team targets will help in completing critical deliverables. Your innovative use of communication tools and techniques will facilitate in explaining difficult issues and establishing consensus between cross-functional teams.

This role will report directly to the PMO Lead, Global Workplace Experience (GWE), in the effort of improving the overall safety program and operational priorities and goals, develop and establish construction safety governance and best practices, and leverage new tools determine, set and track project safety performance against organizational and enterprise goals, track and manage project risks. Focus on risk (including QA/QC) management and mitigation from a capital project to program to portfolio levels. This role works closely with Program Managers and integrated project wok streams (i.e. Global EH&S, Business Risk Management Team, Legal, Design & Change Management, Program Engineering, Finance, Sourcing/Procurement, Digital, etc.) in creating an advanced and world-class construction safety program for Pfizer.

How You Will Achieve It

  • Maintain the Global EH&S standards to establish core expectations and ensure alignment with project teams and key stakeholders in all project stages

  • Key participant and engagement in project stage gate reviews

  • Collaborating with the Capital Projects team to ensure health and safety requirements are effectively integrated during project management planning, execution and embedded in new construction designs

  • Develop a capital projects safety risk escalation program and protocols for global implementation

  • Establish a centralized construction risk and safety data repository or platform for safety forms, project safety documents and data

  • Create an enhanced on-site tool (cloud-based or digital application) to access all construction safety forms, templates and guidelines such as site specific observations, job hazard analysis, etc.

  • Develop continuous improvement and up-skilling in construction health and safety of team members engaged in the planning and execution of capital projects (may include safety trainings and certifications, safety week topic development, etc)

  • Develop proper safety training and protocols when planning and working and around high-hazard/risk areas or building systems

  • Partner with the GWE Portfolio Optimization and Design team to ensure health and safety requirements are integrated into workplace standards

  • Ensure all existing and proposed construction projects incorporate and maintain effective and appropriate health and safety controls and protocols throughout a capital projects’ lifecycle  (i.e. planning, contract initiating, construction, commissioning/validation, hand-over, project completion, etc.)

  • Develop and implement construction performance metrics for health and safety; capture and report performance to appropriate Project Management and Global Workplace Experience (GWE) leadership.

  • Establish a health and safety compliance matrix for all construction project locations; conduct site performance reviews to ensure Global EH&S and Business Risk Management requirements are being met during all project phases

  • Work with PMO Lead and Program Controls to establish an enhanced safety assurance processes for the transfer of care and custody of all construction projects upon completion; establish processes for tracking health and safety corrective actions as needed

  • Perform site compliance assurance assessments and ensuring required corrective actions are managed to effective closure to ensure adherence to standards and regulations throughout project lifecycle

  • Attending capital projects meetings to represent health and safety requirements and advise on required actions; support EHS managers with on-going construction activities on their sites

  • Monitoring the health and safety performance of key construction contractors to ensure a process for approving and restricting contractors is in place

  • Create a review and approval process for high hazard safety plans prior to implementation at the project level.

  • Work alongside Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to develop and monitor proper, safe and protective measures for any and all high hazard activities (electrical, mechanical, confined spaces, chemical, biological, etc.)

  • Continuous improvement for sustainable construction safety sustainability practices.

Qualifications

Must Have

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety or related field

  • In-Depth knowledge of OSHA-30 and EPA Standards (United States), Health and Safety Management for Construction - International

  • 5+ years experience administering standard health and safety concepts, practices, and procedures within the construction industry for large-scale (up to $500M), complex programs

  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and lead cross-functional teams.

  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to analyse complex information and make sound decisions.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels

  • Ability to mentor, coach/train and effectively transfer expertise to others

  • Ability to work with Project Managers to develop a project execution plan with focus on construction safety

  • Ability to communicate technical concepts in simple terms

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Facilitation, Negotiation & Problem Resolution Skills

  • Ability to build a strong network and relationships with consultants and vendors

  • Ability to oversee safety program at a local and global level simultaneously

  • Experience dealing with Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) and regulatory agencies (OSHA, EPA, DOH, etc.)

  • Experience implementing sustainable building construction safety practices

  • Experience with creation of global construction safety standards

Nice to Have

  • Master's degree in a related field or professional certifications (DBIA, LEED, etc)

  • Certified OSHA-30 Trainer

  • Experience with GxP and GMP environments preferred

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to perform complex problem solving and analysis of financial, logistics and engineering issues

  • Knowledge of legal, regulatory, and safety standards in real estate and construction

  • Ability to work consistently with cross-functional teams internal and external of GWE

  • Ability to perform work in different office or work settings so long as work could be safely performed

  • Ability to read construction blueprints and proper use of technologies to integrate and communicate project safety plans as needed

NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • Approximately 20% travel is expected (domestically and internationally)

  • Work schedule may vary to accommodate and support teams globally

  • May have to undertake shift work as and when required, which may involve working off shift hours and weekends when required

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $78,000.00 to $130,000.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 10.0% of the base salary.
