The opportunity:

We're looking for a Strategy Consultant to join our US Strategy team. You'll collaborate directly with our senior business leaders to develop strategy and bring fresh, innovative thinking to the table in pursuit of our global ambitions. As a Strategy Consultant, you’ll play a pivotal role in providing support and analysis on projects that ensure we stay ahead of the competition and grow our market leadership. In short, we serve as the internal consulting firm to the senior leadership team.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Contributing to continuous development of the overall strategy for Markel’s US insurance platform and corporate shared services
  • Supporting our business partners on a broad range of business-critical topics, from product and growth strategies to operational and organizational challenges and opportunities
  • Deriving insights from data to guide strategic decision-making for leadership
  • Helping to craft insightful presentations that summarize analysis
  • Conducting market research, identifying and monitoring industry trends and competitive analysis
  • Supporting cyclical reporting responsibilities for the Executive team
  • Supporting the Executive Committee with ad hoc requests in a timely, accurate and insightful way
  • Supporting project delivery and admin through strong project management skills  

Our must haves:

  • Relevant experience: Experience in management consulting or similar in-house role (insurance experience not required, but the candidate should be prepared to embrace a learning curve on day one)
  • Problem solving ability: High proficiency in and passion for problem solving; ability to identify business challenges and opportunities, break these into logical and manageable components to think creatively about solutions
  • Strong communication skills: Comfortable engaging with senior leaders both through written and verbal communication
  • Organizational skills: Strong time management skills with the ability to juggle multiple priorities with a flexible attitude
  • Strong Microsoft skills: Experience in Excel and PowerPoint are particularly critical
  • Great teammate: Demonstrated collaborative ability, both within immediate team and wider company. Ability to successfully work and partner across multiple functions in an organization

Location: Must be willing and able to travel to Richmond, VA periodically
