This position will report to the Vice President, General Manager of McKesson Brands. This role is responsible for establishing and maintaining the framework and business case to support the development and expansion of our owned brand business.  The individual will work with other functional leaders (Commercialization, Product Development, and Sourcing) to evaluate additional business opportunities, potential investments to drive sales, model the financial impact of future investments, evaluate participation in RFPs, and evaluate incremental business opportunities.   While this position will not have direct reports at the onset, the individual must influence key decision makers both within the McKesson Brands organization and within the broader McKesson Medical Surgical (MMS) organization.   

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identifies and develops new business opportunities, such as expanded services, sourcing as a service, potential for joint ventures, and enhanced selling capabilities.
  • Evaluates existing partnerships and sales efforts with an eye toward building on what works and changing what doesn’t.
  • Builds relationships with Sales (McKesson Brands and MMS teams), Sourcing, Product Development, and Market to understand and enhance offerings. 
  • Actively gather competitive intelligence within the business environment, including customer groups, and competitors within the medical-surgical and private label industry.
  • Tracks emerging markets and trends and translates that into new opportunities and business imperatives for the McKesson Brands organization.
  • Fosters an entrepreneurial growth culture across all teams and work functions.
  • Identifies and recommends new services.
  • Helps to shape the company’s long-term objectives and determine plans for how to meet them.
  • Provides advice on product development and distribution and promotion strategies.
  • Supports requests for proposals (RFPs) from potential partners and customers.

Business Development Director Qualifications/Skills:

  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills.
  • Understanding of medical device industry is preferred.
  • Strong financial and business acumen.
  • Proven ability to create and defend a business case, including sensitivity analysis.
  • Adept at finding and telling the story from a complicated data set.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing business strategy.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, highly people oriented, and excels in a team environment.
  • Results-oriented, passionate, and driven to succeed.
  • Ability to develop and facilitate high quality presentations.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing strategic account strategy.
  • Big-picture thinking.
  • Enthusiasm and sincerity.

Education, Experience, & Licensing Requirements:

  • MBA preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in business development, strategy or management consulting or strategic finance.

This is determined by several factors, including performance, experience and skills, equity, regular job market evaluations, and geographical markets. Our Base Pay Range for this position

$143,600 - $239,300
