This role is responsible for providing assistance to a team of analysts that provide financial analysis and reporting support for the Capital and Asset Reporting and Analytics function within Asset Accounting. This position requires a blended knowledge of technical and functional financial reporting and analysis skills. This position will have direct responsibility to determine that our accounting in this area meets FERC, GAAP and State requirements. This position will oversee complex capital and asset accounting matters; therefore, strong analytical skills and the ability to exercise judgment are essential.
Prepare balance sheet and income statement variance analysis (AFUDC and Depreciation Expense analysis, etc.)
Prepare financial schedules (capital expenditures, cash flows, footnote disclosures, etc.) required for SEC reporting.
Analyze the application of AFUDC on capital projects
Support analysis regarding the calculation of depreciation
Prepare and coordinate preparation and review of data requests, governmental filings, including quarterly and annual FERC reports.
Provide financial, accounting, and business management analytical support to various levels of management and customers.
Lead and coordinate special projects and data requests as needed
Work with internal and external auditors, providing necessary information and answering questions as needed.
Maintain good working knowledge of accounting policies and impacts as required.
Champion process improvements to produce efficiencies at all stages of the accounting process.
Overtime may be required during monthly/quarterly/annual closing processes
Basic/Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree with major in Accounting/Finance or related discipline
Five (5) plus years of increasingly diverse or complex experience in related field in addition to degree
Possesses and applies fundamental accounting and finance concepts, practices, and procedures
Experience with financial applications (i.e., PeopleSoft, HFM, PowerPlan, etc.) and query tool (WebI)
Experience using Microsoft products such as Excel, Word and Power Point
Desired Qualifications:
CPA or CPA candidate or Graduate degree in Accounting, Business or related fields
Seven (7+) years of increasingly diverse or complex experience in related field in addition to degree
Experience with monthly close process, general accounting, and financial reporting (FERC/GAAP)
Previous experience in Utility, utility asset or regulatory accounting environment
Advanced analytical and critical thinking skills
Familiar with capital project and asset accounting concepts (Construction work in progress, plant in service, salvage, cost of removal, retirement and unitization)
Experience with financial systems: OneStream, WEBI, PeopleSoft, Power Plan; and Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
Experience with Regulatory Accounting and ratemaking concepts
Demonstrate ability to effectively perform at a senior level, including ability to work independently and training and mentoring junior staff
Prior experience in leading a team or project along with ability to work in a team environment and foster good relationships with teammates and customers
Developing process improvements and best practices based on expertise and institutional knowledge
Excellent written and oral communication skills (including leading meetings)
Hybrid Mobility Classification – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to a Duke Energy facility.
