Your Team & Role

Prudential is on a technology modernization journey, and APIs are at the heart of it. We are building a team to enable an API transformation across the enterprise. A new API gateway is being built, enhancements to our API portal strategy are underway, and the evangelization and education of developers for an API-centric/design first environment has begun. 

As a Developer for the API COE team within the CTO, you will help drive the critical technology strategy for API Management at Prudential. Specifically, you will contribute hands-on to deliver on an API COE engineering and tooling for our enterprise-usable API transformation program. You will partner with tech leads, and other team members to build applications that enhance our delivery experience. This includes Apps, SDKs, CLIs, AI Agent Skills.

Here is What You Can Expect on a Typical Day

  • Contribute to the delivery of API platform capabilities by working closely with Tech Leads, Lead and Senior developers.

  • Enhance API transformation tasks, including updates to API specifications, security configurations, and operational standards under established guidelines.

  • Build and enhance internal developer experience (DX) tools—such as SDK components, CLI utilities, and automation scripts—to support API platform adoption.

  • Collaborate with application development teams to apply API best practices, review API specifications, and assist with migrations to the new enterprise API platform.

  • Apply Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) and DevOps practices to deliver incremental improvements to pipelines, tooling, and platform components.

  • Help identify opportunities to streamline API development workflows, tooling, and platform operations.

  • Participate in monitoring, troubleshooting, and supporting production-related activities for API platform services as needed.

The Skills & Expertise You Bring   

  • Hands‑on experience developing software using modern languages such as Java, Python, Node.js, or Go, used in conjunction with DevOps.

  • Working understanding of REST API design, specification‑first development.

  • Familiarity with API architectures—including REST, and exposure to GraphQL, gRPC, or asynchronous APIs is a plus.

  • Knowledge in working on cloud environments and container orchestration (EKS, ECS, or similar).

  • Understanding of API security fundamentals—especially OAuth2, scopes, policies, and token flows.

  • Familiarity with observability concepts such as metrics, logging, and tracing.

  • Experience with software quality assurance.

  • Ability to support operational tasks, collaborate effectively in cross‑functional teams, and continuously improve skills through learning and experimentation.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

What we offer you:

Prudential is required by state specific laws to include the salary range for this role when hiring a resident in applicable locations. The salary range for this role is from $82,000.00 to $135,300.00. Specific pricing for the role may vary within the above range based on many factors including geographic location, candidate experience, and skills.
