ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

BUSINESS: Polaris Off-Road Vehicles (ORV):

DIRECT REPORTING: NPI Backshop Launch Manager

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for the budget, labor, equipment and process of new welded products being introduced into Monterey production facility. Work closely with product engineering and design to steer the development and DFM of new designs. Manage the budget, schedule and acquisition of new weld tooling through design, run-off and into SOP. Responsible for designing, implementing and reviewing the procedures and equipment involved in the manufacturing process. Their duties include researching automation techniques, testing new systems for efficiency and planning factory layouts to optimize production.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement manual and automated welding processes for new product introduction (NPI) with ability to recommend and specify equipment details.
  • Defines tooling and fixtures used in the manufacturing process. Coordinates with tool designers to specify or procure new tooling, fixtures and ideas and fixtures.
  • Analyzes and evaluates manufacturing methods and standards. Provides solutions to problems adversely affecting operator safety, quality, productivity, and/or cost.
  • Identifies areas of unnecessary cost. Research methods and procedures for cost reductions, work cell development and material flow improvement.
  • Qualify and develop new welding specifications.
  • Interface between Manufacturing and Engineering / Customers.
  • Assists in development and troubleshooting of manufacturing equipment.
  • Reviews preliminary designs, making DFM recommendations to reduce costs and improve manufacturability and quality on new or existing parts.
  • Evaluates design adherence to established Best Practices
  • Develops detailed, complete and accurate capital equipment studies and makes appropriate recommendations for capital expenditures.
  • Assists in preparation of departmental budget including material, manpower, equipment and outside procurement costs, and operates within approved parameters.
  • Reviews and evaluates cost pertaining to make vs. buy decisions and new product development.
  • Process purchase requisitions and records as required.
  • Work in safe and healthy manner, strictly following all safety rules and regulations.
  • Maintain a neat, clean, orderly work area.
  • Complete company provided training.
  • Participate in VIP process.
  • Perform special projects as assigned.
  • Develop and maintain PDP Manufacturing Plan and Process FMEA’s as assigned.
  • Develop manufacturing standard cost model for new products.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Industrial Engineering. Weld Engineering or Weld Technology degree preferred.
  • 3-7 years of Mfg. Engineering experience. Lean Manufacturing knowledge is desirable and strongly preferred.
  • 3-5 years of Applied Weld Engineering experience required.
  • Automation background and experience.
  • Extensive knowledge in the GMAW process.
  • Desire to work on, ride, and improve industry-leading powersports products.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EDUCATION:

  • Strategic thinker, strong analytical skills, able to synthesize considerable and complex data
  • Be capable of utilizing spreadsheet and ERP-type software in managing the planning process
  • Proven organizational, project management and leadership skills
  • Change Agent – skill with enabling change and strong influencing abilities
  • Exceptional interpersonal/written communication skills; can effectively interact with all levels of management
  • Strong PC skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access)
  • Team player: able to work well across business operations and develop strong business teams
  • Ability to work on multiple projects with limited direction.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills required (Spanish and English)
  • Proficiency with PC's (MS Office) and CAD software.
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude and mechanic skills.
  • Hands-on individual with detailed trouble shooting capabilities.
  • Understanding of SPC.
  • Strong Project Management skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Standard office environment; required to spend time on manufacturing plant floor which includes walking / standing as needed.
  • Some travel may be required.
