About the Role:

Dow Jones is seeking a skilled Lead Data Scientist to guide and enhance the core data science capabilities within the Dow Jones AI Engineering Team and our Commercial Tech team. You will take ownership of designing, constructing, and maintaining machine learning pipelines tailored for various AI applications, with a particular focus on Natural Language Processing. Working closely with engineering teams, you'll lead the integration of machine learning models, optimize performance, and ensure the seamless real-world deployment of machine learning solutions.

As a key leader, you will oversee all aspects of the data science project development lifecycle, from data analysis and model selection to developing proofs of concept and refining pipelines. You will apply your advanced expertise in statistical analysis and machine learning techniques to derive insights from complex data sets, address organizational challenges, and drive actionable outcomes that deliver tangible value to the business. Additionally, you will mentor junior data scientists and contribute to strategic decision-making to continuously elevate the AI capabilities of the team.

You Will:

  • Lead collaboration within the AI Engineering Team to maintain and optimize robust data pipelines supporting various ML models, with a focus on information retrieval and AdTech applications.

  • Engineer scalable, high-performance machine learning solutions, utilizing cutting-edge modeling techniques, rigorous testing methodologies, and early validation on targeted user cohorts.

  • Drive strategic decision-making by drawing meaningful insights from large datasets, defining key metrics, and developing actionable solutions to address business challenges.

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.

  • Lead the integration and deployment of diverse ML models into production systems, ensuring interoperability, performance optimization, and real-world effectiveness.

  • Mentor junior team members, fostering collaboration, knowledge sharing, and professional development.

  • Stay ahead of AI, ML, and NLP advancements, incorporating emerging trends to enhance processes and model performance.

  • Proactively identify and scope new data initiatives, asking thoughtful questions, diagnosing core business problems, and developing long-term, impactful solutions.

You Have:

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related STEM field is preferred.

  • 7+ years of industry experience in data science or machine learning engineering, with a proven track record of leading projects and mentoring teams.

  • Expert-level programming skills in Python and/or another high-level language commonly used in machine learning.

  • Deep expertise in NLP and Machine Learning frameworks and libraries (e.g., PyTorch, HuggingFace, LangChain, spaCy, NLTK, scikit-learn, etc.).

  • Strong understanding of information retrieval techniques and structured data extraction from unstructured sources.

  • Hands-on experience with LLM APIs for pre-processing, fine-tuning, and deploying models on cloud-based infrastructure.

  • Extensive experience with cloud-based infrastructure and services (e.g., AWS, GCP), including deployment and optimization of ML workloads.

  • Proficiency in containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes for scalable ML solutions.

  • Strong experience with version control systems such as Git and best practices for collaborative development.

  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills, with a proven ability to translate complex ML concepts into actionable business insights.

  • Demonstrated ability to drive impact in AI-driven applications such as document analysis, classification, summarization, translation, personalization, and chatbots.

  • A track record of mentoring and developing data science talent, fostering collaboration and innovation within teams.
