The Opportunity

The Director of Business Excellence is responsible for understanding the functional strategy and vision of the procurement organization set by the CPO and the leadership team and developing the strategy that will support achievement of the vision.  The director will have a team that is responsible for the strategic development and execution of technology systems and tools, process improvement, plus the elements necessary to enable people to adopt/use tools and processes: capability development, change management and organizational design. The lead will work across the Global Procurement Organization and the Divisional Procurement Professionals to drive One Abbott Procurement approach. The lead will be responsible for successful implementation of these strategies including the annual projects identified to move Abbott across the Procurement and Supply Chain maturity curve within direct and indirect categories globally, including the leadership and project management of the change across all stakeholder groups.

The role will require partnership across the Business Excellence team, procurement leadership team within GPS and the Divisions, Central Financial Services and Business Technology Services organization to effectively deliver against projects with a heavy focus on management of the design, build and implementation of key global procurement and supply chain technology platforms and processes, including but not limited to Source to Pay and Vendor Master Data Management SaaS solutions. The role will require supporting and influencing key business leaders and stakeholders to ensure engagement, support and proper project management and readiness from a business standpoint.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Develop technology global roadmap for Procurement. Secure leadership alignment and budgetary resources to support the roadmap. Manage GPS budget to support the roadmap. Roadmap to include global transformation within Source to Pay, as well as technologies supporting sustainability, risk management and other key Procurement priorities.
  • Develop process optimization global roadmap for Procurement. Secure leadership alignment and budgetary resources to support the roadmap. Manage GPS budget to support the roadmap. Process roadmap includes both processes changing due to technology improvements, as well as those independent of technology changes.
  • Lead the project management driving from the technology and process roadmaps. Lead prioritization, budgeting, requirement definition, user acceptance testing and change management.
  • Work across functions (CFS, technology, procurement) to solve business opportunities and challenges relating to technology and process. Focus on improving efficiency, addressing non-compliance and working more effectively.
  • As work is redesigned through technology and process improvements, accountable for preparing Procurement and business stakeholders to adopt and embrace change, through robust change management efforts to include identification of change impacts, training, communication, and on-going support mechanisms.  
  • Develop strategy to improve capabilities of Procurement organization/function and execute projects in support of the strategy.
  • Accountable for engaging with leadership in GPS and business to build alignment for change, drive change management and ensure capability building.

Required Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • BA or equivalent experience required: MBA preferred    
  • Successful, 15+ year track record within project management and process improvement, preferably within procurement and supply chain management            
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or similar certification desirable

Minimum Experience/Training:

  • 10-15 years of project management and process improvement experience executing complex multi-business enterprise projects
  • Experience managing procurement activities in direct and indirect areas of spend
  • Source to Pay knowledge:  Ability to build and learn functional knowledge across Source to Pay processes and global technology solutions and designs. 
  • Excellent organizational skills, including program/project management governance.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal). Ability to communicate orally and verbally to executive audiences.
  • Strong interdisciplinary, intercultural, influence, and networking skills.                      
  • International business experience
  • Deep knowledge of markets by regions
  • Ability to develop actionable implementation plans
  • Relevant business process knowledge, including procurement & category management
  • Strong influence and negotiating skills.
  • Experience leading teams - both with direct staff and indirect project teams.

Desired Experience/Training:

  • 10-15 years of procurement or supply chain experience in a multinational company with individual accountable business units

The base pay for this position is

$143,300.00 – $286,700.00

In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
