Job Title: Seasonal Skate Host – Part-Time / Non-Exempt

Location: Maggie Daley Park, Chicago, IL
Reports To: Operations Manager
 

Position Overview

Maggie Daley Park is hiring Seasonal Skate Hosts to support operations at our popular Ice Skating Ribbon during the winter season. As a Skate Host, you’ll be a key part of the guest experience—providing support on and off the ice, promoting safety, and helping create a fun and festive environment for all visitors.

This is a great opportunity for active, outgoing individuals who enjoy working outdoors, interacting with the public, and being part of a dynamic seasonal team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Greet guests with a friendly and welcoming attitude

  • Assist skaters safely on and off the ice

  • Help guests who fall or need support while skating

  • Provide information about rink rules, park amenities, and skating guidelines

  • Observe skaters to encourage safe behavior and enforce rink policies

  • Respond to minor incidents and report injuries or concerns to the Skate Host Leader or Operations Team

  • Support cleanliness and organization in warming tents, rental areas, and guest zones

  • Distribute and collect rental skates and helmets, ensuring proper fit and function

  • Assist with crowd control, guest flow, and line management during peak times

  • Participate in setup, operation, and cleanup for special events and group programs

  • Help create a fun, inclusive, and festive atmosphere during themed or high-traffic sessions

  • Complete other job resposibility and duties as assigned

Schedule Requirements

This is a seasonal, part-time position. Applicants must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, with flexibility during peak operating times and special events.

Qualifications

  • Strong ice-skating ability required

  • Prior customer service or recreation experience is a plus

  • Excellent communication and people skills

  • Ability to stay calm and professional in a busy, public-facing environment

  • A team player with a positive, proactive attitude

  • Committed to guest safety, accessibility, and inclusion

  • Ability to work in the cold and warm weather conditions

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent walking, standing, and skating

  • Ability to lift and move up to 30 pounds

  • May be required to physically assist guests in case of falls or emergencies

Compensation: $20.00/hour
