The Manager of Pharmacy Services is responsible for the daily operation of the Department of Pharmacy Services. The Manager implements and operationalizes programs and services which are developed to meet the organization's goals and strategic plan. The Manager executes and monitors departmental processes related to human resources and staffing for the clinical pharmacist and operational technical teams. Assisting in financial performance, regulatory requirements, Pharmacy and medication policies and procedures, quality improvement, and risk management activities. The Manager partners with the Clinical supervisor to development and maintenance of clinical services, staff competency, interdepartmental collaboration efforts, and problem solving. This position must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and service appropriate to the age of the patients cared for in their area.
Pay Range: $94,848 - $167,648/annually
Employment Type: Full Time, 80 hours every 2 weeks
Schedule: 6:00 am - 3:00 pm
Requirements: Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) required, License to practice in the State of Michigan required
Employee Management
- Responsible for work schedule development and timekeeping approval.
- Coordinates staff recruiting, orientation, competency assessment, skills development, goal setting, performance review, counseling and progressive discipline.
- Conducts staff meetings; manages daily staffing, scheduling, and FTE utilization.
Resource Management
- Provides the operational leadership for the department including overseeing processes for procurement, preparation, and distribution of medications for positive patient outcomes.
- Monitors departmental performance against budget, researches and explains variances; in cooperation with the director and clinical supervisor approves purchase orders and invoices.
- Assists with operational and capital budget development.
- Maintains charge description master; executes revenue enhancements/maintenance and required reimbursement modifications to billing procedures.
- Routinely audits key financial indicators.
- Monitors departmental workload, activity, and productivity.
- Responsible to adopt and consistently apply core values and strategic essentials as a means to guide and make decisions to achieve short and long-term organizational objectives.
Operational Support
- Provides operational support for Clinical Services.
- In cooperation with the Clinical supervising coordinator ensures safe, appropriate, cost-effective medication therapies for patients according to established policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Provides leadership, coordinates, integrates clinical service initiatives with established operational practices in collaboration with the Clinical Supervising Coordinator.
- Actively participates in patient / employee safety activities.
- Participates on committees and assures patient safety through review of processes in assigned areas as evidenced by lack of errors or events.
Departmental Structure Service
- Develops, updates, and maintains departmental policies and procedures Implements and monitors employee adherence to hospital policies.
- Demonstrates and reinforces hospital values and customer service expectations with staff.
- Performs all the functions / duties of the pharmacists as evidenced by meeting the Pharmacist's competencies and has the ability to assume staffing responsibilities in the role of a pharmacist to assure smooth operations of the pharmacy.
Department Operational Monitoring
- Executes Hospital and Department QA and QI initiatives.
- Monitors and implements regulatory requirements of surveying organizations (CMS, DNV, PCAB, Board of Pharmacy, etc.) and standards of practice (ASHP, ISMP, etc. Implements processes to assure compliance.
- Completes risk management, infection control, and incident tracking/investigation activities.
Customer Service Management
- Manages inter-departmental operational issues; provides departmental component/perspective in hospital-wide operational initiatives; maintains and troubleshoots departmental equipment.
- Provides departmental component/perspective in hospital-wide operational initiatives.
- Core Measure activity and support. Manages operational issues in services rendered to the Medical Staff.
- Serves as a preceptor for the pharmacy clerkships and other educational activities.
- Participates in hospital and community educational programs and contributes to the advancement of the profession through participation in professional organizations.
