A Day in the Life

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Provides technical and sustaining engineering support in a manufacturing area.
  • Recommends and implements equipment and process modifications to meet quality standards and improve production efficiencies, manufacturing techniques as well as production yields for existing products.
  • Integrates equipment and material capabilities to meet process module target specifications and technology target specifications.
  • Reviews product development requirements for compatibility with processing methods to determine costs and schedules.
  • Interacts with product design and development personnel to ensure that processes and designs are compatible.
  • May develop and conduct statistical analysis or recommend additions to document work.
  • Leads the innovation, development and/or optimization of new manufacturing concepts, processes and procedures for transfer to manufacturing operations.
  • This can include scouting and feasibility work, material selection, process and equipment selection, tooling / fixture and equipment installation and assessment of inputs, outputs and alignment to requirements.
  • Develops manufacturing processes that are applicable to statistical process control and may develop those techniques including the measurement systems.
  • Ensures processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations.
  • Support the design and documentation of manufacturing processes, procedures, and production layouts for assembly, equipment installation, machining, processing, and material handling.
  • Assist in configuring and maintaining MES process flows, including routings, work instructions, and basic data collection in alignment with shop floor operations.
  • Help create, update, and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and routings within the MES system to ensure accuracy and consistency with engineering documentation.
  • Support MES process validation activities and testing under guidance, ensuring processes meet quality and regulatory requirements.
  • Follow and help maintain compliance with applicable regulations, quality standards, and internal Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Assist with Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) by updating MES configurations, BOMs, routings, and related documentation.
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of SOPs and work instructions related to manufacturing processes and MES usage.
  • Support equipment installation, setup, and integration activities by assisting with MES connectivity, data collection, and system testing.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams including Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, IT, and Automation to support daily operations and improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in troubleshooting basic manufacturing and MES-related issues on the shop floor and escalate complex issues as needed.
  • Collect and analyze production and process data from MES to support continuous improvement and operational efficiency.
  • Support training efforts by helping document processes and assisting in MES-related training for manufacturing personnel.

TECHNICAL SPECIALIST CAREER STREAM: An individual contributor with responsibility in our technical functions to advance existing technology or introduce new technology and therapies. Formulates, delivers and/or manages projects assigned and works with other stakeholders to achieve desired results. May act as a mentor to colleagues or may direct the work of other lower level professionals. The majority of time is spent delivering R&D, systems or initiatives related to new technologies or therapies – from design to implementation - while adhering to policies, using specialized knowledge and skills.

Required Knowledge and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes, including assembly, machining, equipment installation, and material handling.

  • Familiarity with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) concepts such as routings, work instructions, data collection, and process flows (hands-on experience is a plus but not required).

    Knowledge of Bills of Materials (BOMs), engineering documentation, and change management processes (ECR/ECO).

  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, process flow diagrams, and standard operating procedures.
  • Basic analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to support troubleshooting and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strong documentation skills and attention to detail for maintaining accurate MES and manufacturing records.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); basic data analysis skills are a plus.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Willingness to work on the shop floor and support production activities as needed.
  • Eagerness to learn MES systems, manufacturing technologies, and industry best practices.
