 Position Summary
GEICO is seeking an experienced Senior Manager, Commercial Insurance Engineering with a passion for building high-performance applications and platforms with generative AI capabilities. You will lead and manage a team of engineers with a deep focus on growing GEICO’s data engineering capabilities. Your team will closely work with both the data platform team and the commercial insurance engineering team to ensure that the data schema is properly designed, that data is properly transferred, reported, and used to help grow our commercial insurance business into market leadership. The ideal candidate has technical expertise in building modern data engineering solutions and pipelines using open-source technologies.

Position Description

Our Senior Manager is an engineering leader who works with the engineering staff to innovate and build high-performing open-source solutions that seamlessly integrates with our commercial insurance application within our data platform. A senior manager will lead the strategy and execution of a technical roadmap that will increase the velocity of delivering products and unlock new engineering capabilities. The ideal candidate will define and execute on a technical strategy to transform our current commercial insurance data pipelines. You will partner and work closely with the business, product, and peer data engineering teams to ensure that the solution and data are delivered in line with business need

 

What you'll do:

·       Manage projects and processes to keep the team organized, efficient, and optimally running.

·       Hire, retain, mentor, and manage engineering staff to ensure they have the necessary skills to perform their jobs and develop their professional careers.

·       Perform engineering design evaluations to ensure projects are within resource, budget, and scheduling constraints.

·       Set, manage, and report KPIs to measure progress and facilitate data-driven decision making.

·       Manage day-to-day activities of the engineering teams and project managers overseeing execution of software development projects against delivery commitments and project plans.

·       Seek ways to simplify and standardize designs, operations, and deployment plans, focus on reducing complexity and providing performance, agility, and scalability.

·       Be responsible for production operations support and ensuring availability, stability, and performance of production applications.

·       Strong relationship building to establish and foster great relationships with tech teams and business partners in commercial insurance

 

Qualifications:

·       Proven management experience leading teams of 6+ engineers

·       Strong understanding of data transfer, data architecture, and its use for application in commercial insurance

·       Hands-on experience with modern open data stack technologies, including Apache Iceberg, Delta Lake, Spark, Flink, DBT, Python, Kafka, Airflow, NiFi, etc.

·       Strong knowledge of cloud computing technologies and concepts (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS, etc.)

·       Fluency with at least one modern language such as Python, Java, Go and experience with open-source software is a big plus

·       Proven ability to concentrate and demonstrate a capacity for learning technical concepts and adapting to new technologies quickly

·       Strong Cloud (AWS, GCP, Azure etc.) platform knowledge

·       Proficiency in Project Management and work item management tools such as GitHub and Azure DevOps

·       Strong foundation in algorithms, data structures, and core computer science concepts

·       Fluency with SQL, PowerBI, Snowflake tech

·       Experience with application monitoring tools and performance assessments

·       Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate to both Senior Leadership, highly technical and non-technical audiences

·       Proven experience with CI/CD pipelines and build and release practices in commercial insurance Experience

 

Experience:

·       10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including software development lifecycle best practices

·       5+ years of development in a large-scale, mission-critical environment

·       5+ years of hands-on work experience supervising personnel in a technical environment

·       2+ years' experience with automated testing including Unit, Integration, and End-to-End functional testing

 

Education:

·       Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience


 

Annual Salary

$119,000.00 - $224,000.00

The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
