About the Role

We are looking for an insightful and resourceful subject matter expert to join Group Financial Risk Management function and report to the Director of Derivative Risk Management.

The main objective of this position is to build a target operating model for interest rate hedge programs and implement solid risk governance and oversight on the company’s uses of financial derivatives. The role is critical in ensuring that the Group has robust and effective derivative programs delivering the expected financial outcome without introducing undue financial and operational risks.

Executing this mandate involves working in a close partnership with Finance teams (e.g. Group Capital Management, Group Actuarial), and Investments teams (e.g. Investment Consulting Unit, Investment Governance) to perform holistic forward-looking derivative risk management. This role will also work closely with local Risk, Finance and Investment teams to support them in executing derivatives risk framework.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct risk assessment of new derivative programs and new investments involving complex derivative structure and provide risk insight to the senior management.
  • Perform independent review on existing programs covering the end-to-end process, models, documentation, control and reports, with a view to generate risk insight to senior stakeholders to improve the design and/or operational aspect of these programs.
  • Monitor, on an on-going basis, the effectiveness of existing programs and highlight deviation from market practices leading to inefficiency and complexity. Proactively recommend alternatives that are more cost-effective / operationally simpler / less risky.
  • Develop a model interest rate hedge program for one of the large Business Units to reflect past experience and industry best practice.
  • Stay abreast of development in the derivative markets, including but not limited to regulatory environment and industry trends.
  • Support the development and maintenance of the Derivative Risk Standard to ensure it remains relevant and effective.
  • Providing guidance on derivative related matters to the business and ensuring issues are fully identified and properly mitigated with appropriate action plans.
  • Participate in ad-hoc projects relating to derivatives based on senior management or Group Office requests or external developments.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Bechelor’s degree in Finance, Business or a quantitative field. At least 12 years of experience in Finance, Investment, Risk Management or Actuarial fields.
  • Strong quantitative & analytical skills as well as independent critical thinking.
  • Hands-on experience on financial derivatives is essential. Be able to provide insightful and timely risk opinion on derivative related matters.
  • Strong capability in building effective relationship with stakeholders in Group Office and local business units.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with authority and confidence, both to technical and non-technical audience
