This role leads the data strategy, roadmap, and execution across Claims, Finance, and Reinsurance. You will define how data is captured, governed, modeled, and delivered across the insurance value chain so business leaders can make faster, more accurate, and more confident decisions.

You will own the development of trusted data products spanning policy, claims, premium, loss, exposure, reserving, and reinsurance. These data products will support operational efficiency, financial close, regulatory compliance, risk transfer decisions, reserving accuracy, fraud detection, litigation management, and portfolio optimization.

You will work closely with Claims, Finance, Reinsurance, Underwriting, Actuarial, IT, and Data Engineering to ensure consistent, high-quality data from policy inception through claims settlement and ceded recoverable.

Responsibilities

Data Strategy & Governance

  • Define and own the end-to-end data strategy across Claims, Finance, and Reinsurance domains.
  • Establish data standards, ownership, quality controls, lineage, and governance for internal and third-party datasets.
  • Maintain a unified data dictionary and harmonized definitions across claims, underwriting, actuarial, and finance.
  • Ensure data workflows meet audit, SOX, regulatory, and compliance requirements.
  • Partner with Legal and Compliance to support audit readiness and regulatory reporting.

Data Engineering Partnership & Oversight

  • Partner with data engineering to design and improve pipelines feeding claims systems, financial reporting, reinsurance accounting, analytics, and AI use cases.
  • Validate data models and transformations in Azure Data Platform, Microsoft Fabric, and Databricks.
  • Define and enforce data quality rules for common issues such as late reserving, missing exposure data, ledger-policy mismatches, bordereaux inconsistencies, and ceded allocation gaps.
  • Set expectations for data availability, reliability SLAs, and lineage tracking.

Reporting, Dashboards & Analytics Enablement

  • Own the roadmap for dashboards, KPIs, and reporting across claims operations, financial close, and reinsurance performance.
  • Enable self-service analytics through Power BI and Fabric semantic models, reducing spreadsheet-based reporting.
  • Standardize metrics used by Claims, Finance, Underwriting, Actuarial, and Reinsurance teams.
  • Support operational decisions including triage, staffing, reserving, treaty evaluation, recoverable, and portfolio steering.

     

AI, Machine Learning & Advanced Analytics Use Cases

  • Identify and prioritize AI and advanced analytics use cases, including:
    • Claim severity and litigation propensity modeling
    • Fraud and anomaly detection
    • Automated extraction from adjuster notes, medical bills, legal invoices, and treaty documents
    • Recoverable validation and treaty performance analytics
    • Forecasting premium, loss, and cash flows
    • Generative AI summaries for claims files, financial narratives, and reinsurance contracts
    • Partner with Data Science and Azure AI Studio teams to ensure models are explainable, validated, and embedded into business workflows.

Backlog Management, User Stories & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Own and prioritize the data product backlog across Claims, Finance, and Reinsurance.
  • Translate business needs into clear user stories with acceptance criteria tied to measurable value.
  • Lead Agile ceremonies, roadmap reviews, and stakeholder demos.
  • Facilitate alignment across Claims, Finance, Reinsurance, Underwriting, Actuarial, and IT.

Business Impact & Operational Improvement

  • Improve claims outcomes, reserving accuracy, and litigation management through better insights.
  • Accelerate financial close and reduce manual reconciliations.
  • Strengthen reinsurance decisions with clear visibility into exposures, cessions, and treaty performance.
  • Enhance feedback loops to underwriting and product teams with actionable loss and portfolio insights.
  • Improve audit readiness and regulatory confidence through strong governance and documentation.

Required Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in data product ownership, analytics, or domain-focused data roles; P&C insurance experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of claims operations, financial reporting, and reinsurance concepts.
  • Proven experience partnering with data engineering teams on pipelines, data models, and quality frameworks.
  • Ability to translate complex insurance concepts into clear technical requirements.
  • Strong facilitation, communication, and stakeholder alignment skills.
    • Hands-on experience with the Azure analytics ecosystem:
    • Azure Data Platform
    • Microsoft Fabric
    • Azure Data Factory
    • Databricks
    • Azure AI Studio / Azure OpenAI
    • Power BI

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working directly in Claims, Finance, Reinsurance, or Actuarial teams.
  • Familiarity with claims and reinsurance systems (Guidewire, Duck Creek, XL Pro, SICS, or similar).
  • Experience with text-heavy datasets and NLP use cases.
  • Knowledge of reinsurance structures (quota share, surplus share, excess of loss).
  • Azure, Power BI, or data platform certifications.

This role will work closely with and influence solutions across:

  • Azure Data Platform (data lake, storage, metadata, access controls)
  • Microsoft Fabric (analytics environment, semantic models, financial data modeling)
  • Azure Data Factory (ingestion and orchestration for finance and reinsurance data)
  • Databricks (data engineering, modeling, reconciliations, predictive analytics)
  • Azure AI Studio / Azure OpenAI (document intelligence, predictive models, generative summarization)
  • Power BI (financial dashboards, operational reporting, scorecards)
  • Data governance and lineage tools such as Purview, plus Git and DevOps workflows.

SALARY: The estimated salary range for this position is $200,000.00- 250,000.00 per year. This is a good-faith assessment of the salary range for this position only. In determining the actual salary within this range, MSIG USA will consider a candidate’s relevant experience, location, and other job-related factors.
