About the team
We are responsible for setting the strategic direction of eBay: our ambition, where we play, and how we win in the market. The corporate strategy has a reputation of solving the most challenging problems and coming up with innovative and out-of-the-box solutions, with recommendations grounded in data.
We work very closely with senior leadership and have a high visibility. Team members can have a fast-track career in strategy or move into the business after 1-2 years.
The team is responsible for deeply understanding the needs of our core buyers and sellers and crafting the strategies that will differentiate eBay relative to our competitors. We work very closely with product, technology, and regional business teams to ensure the strategy is translated into action across the end-to-end customer experience. Our work can be divided into 3 main topics: 1) we develop eBay Inc’s strategy together with eBay’s executives, 2) we run strategic projects to solve key strategic issues supporting select executives at eBay, 3) we closely monitor the competitive environment & trends.
The opportunity
The eBay corporate strategy team is seeking a Principal, Corporate Strategy. Within this role, you will lead a cross-functional strategy project and a team of a few strategy team members. You will work with key stakeholders from all functions across the organization to craft strategies and drive structured and data-based recommendations to action. In this role, you will have the ability to influence key elements of eBay’s strategy and to help shape the strategic direction of eBay, working with eBay’s senior executives. The ideal candidate has a track record of making pragmatic, concrete recommendations with real world implementation experience. It is critical for the role that the candidate has strong analytic skills and is excellent in developing creative/ out-of-the-box and well-thought-out solutions for challenging business problems. You can either build a career in eBay’s strategy team or use this as stepping stone into other business and product roles at eBay.
Role responsibilities:
Project leadership: Lead cross-functional projects to solve strategic business problems, working with senior eBay executives. Projects are usually 2-4 months long, staffed with 1-3 team members supporting the Principal. Topics can span eBay’s overall strategy, category strategies, buyer/seller strategies or functional strategies (e.g., payments, ads) or other relevant strategic topics
Insights generation: Work with your team and analytics/ data science support to define smart analyses and generate new, compelling insights. Visualize in simple and compelling ways. Use the insights to develop key recommendations grounded in data
Strategy Development: Define and structure the core problem, understand status quo & competitive dynamics, define ambitions and value proposition and create recommendations for key actions to solve the problem
Communication: Develop compelling and concise storylines to communicate team’s recommendation; prepare and deliver presentations to senior leadership
People leadership: Develop a team of associates and managers to constantly improve and help them grow their career
Job Requirements:

Skilled in project management and strategy development, including project prioritization, hypotheses development, financial and business modeling, strategic options identification, consensus building, and implementation
Outstanding analytical capabilities (quantitative and qualitative), ability to define relevant analyses in a hypothesis-driven approach, generating new & groundbreaking insights grounded in data
Excellence in structured thinking, developing creative solutions to challenging strategic business problems. Creativity and “out of the box” thinking that drives innovation. Ability to “see around corners” and “connect the dots” that enable business to proactively drive business
Strong executive presence and ability to communicate strategy clearly and simply. Ease with executive-level interactions. Ability to create clear and simple storylines.
Proven track record to lead and mentor a driven strategy team in the development and execution of key initiatives. Ability to lead, empower and mentor project team members
Comfort in reaching out and prioritizing cross-functional collaboration in a highly matrixed environment
Comfort in handling uncertainty

Qualifications
Proven leader with at least 7+ years of work experience - experience at a top strategy consulting firm is a must;
Experienced project managers, currently working at top strategy consulting companies. Leaders who spent at least 2-3 years at a top strategy consulting company and then advanced their careers for 4-5 years at a startup or corporate
Bachelors Degree required, MBA or equivalent preferred
Expertise in technology and/or in e-commerce/retail is a plus

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment in California, Washington, or New York is expected in the range below.
$144,000 - $216,150Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
