Job Summary
An OpenShift Red Hat Engineer is responsible for managing and maintaining OpenShift clusters, ensuring the successful deployment of containerized applications. This role involves configuring and troubleshooting OpenShift environments, automating tasks using tools like Ansible and Terraform, and ensuring security and performance optimization. The engineer works closely with development teams to support CI/CD pipelines, monitor system health, and implement best practices for container orchestration in cloud-native environments.
Responsibilities & Duties
• OpenShift Administration: Install, configure, and maintain OpenShift clusters and associated components (such as routers, etcd, and monitoring systems).
• Containerization: Work with container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and facilitate the deployment of containerized applications in OpenShift environments.
• Automation & Scripting: Automate infrastructure and deployment tasks using tools like Ansible, Terraform, or Helm.
• System Monitoring & Troubleshooting: Proactively monitor the health of OpenShift clusters, troubleshoot performance issues, and provide solutions to address outages or issues.
• Security & Compliance: Implement and manage security policies for OpenShift clusters, including network policies, role-based access control (RBAC), and security patches.
• Collaboration: Work closely with development teams to ensure smooth deployment of applications, collaborate on CI/CD pipeline integrations, and assist with container-based application architecture.
• Upgrades & Patches: Perform periodic updates and patches to ensure the OpenShift environment remains up-to-date and secure.
• Documentation & Best Practices: Develop and maintain operational documentation for OpenShift environments and work to establish and promote best practices for OpenShift operations.
• Support: Provide second and third-level support for production issues related to OpenShift or containerized workloads.
• Continuous Improvement: Research new features in OpenShift, Kubernetes, and related technologies, and continuously improve processes for deploying and managing applications in a cloud-native environment.
Qualifications & Skills
• Experience: 6 years of hands-on experience with OpenShift and Kubernetes.
• Proficiency in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) administration, including installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
• Containerization: Proficiency with Docker, Kubernetes, and OpenShift’s container orchestration platform.
• Automation Tools: Experience with automation and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Ansible, Terraform, and Helm.
• Cloud Experience: Familiarity with public cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud is a plus.
• CI/CD: Experience with continuous integration and deployment tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI).
• Networking: Knowledge of container networking, services, and ingress controllers in OpenShift.
• Security: Experience implementing security best practices in OpenShift, including RBAC, network policies, and security contexts.
• Scripting: Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash and Python
• Problem Solving: Strong troubleshooting skills, including experience in performance tuning and resolving complex issues within OpenShift environments.
• Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to document and communicate technical details clearly.
